April’s Art Direction: So there’s this cosmic checkerboard, right? And on it we’ll have Alexander the Great, a Samurai, and Napoleon just kind of chilling out, each in their own separate square, completely unaware of anything around them. Now we just sit back and wait for the money to roll in.

You know, 1945? That horrible year of devastation, Holocaust, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, starvation, death and misery?
Yep, those two guys claim responsibility for 1945. I have no idea why they want to carry that burden, but it’s their trip.

“Where history and technology collide…”
But doesn’t that always happen? Kinda redundant, eh?

I’d rather have all my teeth pulled out with a pair of rusty pliers, than be credited as “co”-ANYTHING with Newt Gingrich.

I thought “Newt Gingrich of 1945″ was a Busby Berkely movie, like “Gold Diggers of 1933″.
Where history and technology collide… inside Napoleon’s jacket, apparently.
I didn’t know that was Alex the Great (top left). I thought it was just some guy with a squashed face and bad hairpiece, carrying a melon.

No, no, no, they have it all wrong, it should be Paul Lynde in the centre square!

I’m guessing that the top line is supposed to read, “Coauthored 1945 with Newt Gingrich” (which, incidentally, is also active voice, as opposed to passive).

History and technology colliding? Why didn’t anybody else think of that before!

Forstchen’s “Lost Regiment” series should have spawned some horrid covers given its premise, but alas sanity ruled.

Apparently, “Gamester Wars” are like “Celebrity Squares” but played over a period of thousands of years.

Phil:
There IS a “Newt Gingrich of 1945″ musical movie! Perhaps you’ve seen it:

I’m mainly confounded by Newt Gingrich.

The trilogy
Game Wars
Gamest Wars
Gamester Wars
Each book contains some “eye of newt”

Wow, this has 5 separate fonts.
Is that a GSS record?
And shouldn’t “coauthor” be hyphenated?
As for the samurai, I am reminded of Lord Dark Helmet in Spaceballs.
Whatever happened to Rick Moranis?

Thank god, the complete Gamester Trilogy all in one volume. Do you know how hard it is to find these books individually?!?

Soon, other authors will also try to use politician “cred” to sell their books:
- “Coauthor with Sarah Palin of NOTES ON THE INSIDE OF HER HAND”
- “Coauthor with Anthony Weiner of SAUCY TWITTERS”
- “Coauthor with Bashar Al-Assad of TORTURE AND EXECUTION MEMO”
- “Coauthor with G.W.Bush of MY BIOGRAPHICY by George W. Bush”

Seems like there’s a lot more colliding here than just history and technology. My head against a brick wall, for example.

Newt Gingrich?!? The politician?!?

Everyone sing: “Here is the story…of a man named Brady…Who was busy with three boys of his own…They were four men, living all together,
Yet they were all alone. ” – ah the good old days when family values meant something…I wonder what kind of family values you’d get with Alexander, a Samurai, and Napoleon?

Ah! I see I’m not the only one who thought of The Brady Bunch when viewing this cover.

Given the level of historical accuracy on show here, that’s probably supposed to be Genghis Khan in the middle.
August 8th, 2011 at 9:29 pm
Given the author’s connection to the noted Senator, Twitterer and 2012 Presidential Candidate, you’d think giving old Newt a square on the board wouldn’t have been out of the question.
