I cry FOUL! Dark Shadows is most certainly a TV serial franchise, and thus this cover violates the rules of the site. Lookit, it’s even got ‘BBC TV’s Dark Shadows’ in the lower right corner.

  2. Jaouad Says:

Couldn’t be bothered to make up actual characters, could you?
“Fearless leading man clashes with evil supporting character to save the life of beautiful movie star.”

  3. Seamyst Says:

Yeah, I totally thought he was on his cell before I even read the caption.

  4. Phil Says:

What a dull cover! Rather than texting, I think he’s looking at that hammer and saying, “Is this thing on?” To think that THIS is the most interesting photo they could find…

Marilyn Ross, it turns out, is a pseudonym of Dan Ross. Actually, Marilyn was Dan’s wife, but he wrote the books using her name. I know, it’s confusing, but this interview helps clarify matters: http://www.collinwood.net/features/interview/ross.htm

I also discovered that this is book 8 out of a series of 32. That’s even more depressing than the cover!

  5. L.B. Says:

No, I said ‘vampire’, not ‘vamp’! Damn auto-correct!

  6. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

I cry FOUL! This is part of a franchise! Does it not say quite clearly, in the lower right hand corner, ‘BBC TV’s Dark Shadows’? This violates the GSS protocol. And harrumph.

  7. THX 1138 Says:

And that beautiful movie star was… Johnny Depp!

  8. GSS Admin Says:

@Dead stuff – Yeah you might be right.., though can I really resist a man in tweed?

I blame a mixture of looking through old submissions at 3am just after having many an ale!

    :P

  9. FearofMusic Says:

Aaaarrrggh! Bad blurb! Bad blurb! Now there is no need to even open the book! Everyone knows Barnabas Collins, being a fine upstanding member of Vampires for Jesus and the American Way, can never fail when pitted against an ‘evil’ vampire. I mean, look how bored he looks. Evil obviously isn’t much in the way of a challenge.

  10. Tat Wood Says:

@deadstuff: not quite – it’s ‘ABCTV’s Dark Shadows’ – late 60s BBC would never have done anything as pedestrian as a time-travel soap about a vampire. Individual episodes of ‘The Newcomers’ are far odder than individual episodes of ‘Dark Shadows’ (although the premise for the latter sounds better).

And I think his lines are written on the mallet.

  11. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

    @GSS: /away, changing into flannel. ;)

BTW, apologies about the double post. The Internets ate my first one.

  12. Jaouad Says:

If your only tools are a hammer and a stake, every problem looks like a vampire.

  13. fred Says:

What’s the deal with his index fingers while holding objects?

  14. Anti-Sceptic Says:

So is Barnabas Collins a demon who hunts vampires?
