  1. THX 1138 Says:

What it really needed was a single tear running from one of the windows. Though with the birds about, that could be mistaken for something else.

  2. Phil Says:

I like that his eyebrows are brick ledges, thus permitting a bird to perch thereupon. Logical, but strange.

Perhaps all prisons could be constructed along the same lines. The convicts inside would think they were just looking out of a window, but we passersby would know they were trapped inside a giant brick head.

This cover could also serve for two Harlan Ellison books: I HAVE NO MOUTH (BECAUSE THE BRICKLAYER OMITTED TO GIVE ME ONE) AND I MUST SCREAM; and DEATHBIRD STORIES.

  3. SI Says:

To me it looks like the bird on his eye just won’t shut up. And he can’t tell it to stop talking to him!

  4. Tom Noir Says:

At first glance I read the cover as “A Touch of Sturgeon.” And I was like “You know, I think I’ll just have the salmon instead.”

  5. Tom Noir Says:

Anyways, you know what they say: A bird in the eye is worth two in the hair.

  6. Bibliomancer Says:

“I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream” as interpreted by the bricklayers union.

  7. FearofMusic Says:

Looking closely above the face, it appears as if not just the hair but the skull itself is made of birds.(birdhair, birdskull…birdbrain?) I can’t imagine how this relates to a story about one-night stand sexual encounters in America.

  8. Phil Says:

@Tom Noir: funnily enough, there is another Theodore Sturgeon book which IS called “A Touch of Sturgeon”:

Bird Hair and Prison Face. Together, they fight crime.

  11. SI Says:

@Fred – I can’t tell if those are kids sitting at their feet or groupies… either way it doesn’t look very comfortable!

  12. Scott B Says:

@David Cowie – That’s totally the line I should have gone with.

  13. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

Sturgeon’s Law, mk. II: 95% of everything is brick.

This is also the first time a gentleman has said to a lady, ‘Excuse me! but my eyes are up HERE!’

  14. vampy-ra Says:

My hair is birds, your criticism is invalid.

Bird with flower: “I think I look pretty dashing”

The artist was a time-traveler; the woman is Felicia Day.

  17. Stevie T Says:

The thing that really bothers me is there appears to be a rose growing out of her head….

  18. Herm Says:

Bird-hair-person looks like a young man to me. Pharaoh Boy of the Jay People?

  19. Phil Says:

Hmm. I was thinking Crystal Tipps and Alistair.
