HEY! She stole part of that headpiece from She-ra.

  2. THX 1138 Says:

    Mermaid or fish finger Barbie?

  3. FearöfMusic Says:

More Than Human Not Without Sorcery sounds more fantasy than science fiction. What exactly is the scenario here anyway?

“Pardon me miss, but my ship seems to have either run aground or become wedged in your hair.”
“You,sir, have obviously mistaken me for someone who gives a damn. ”

    1975 nominee for TUBOMIFAFANAF.

  4. Jaouad Says:

… but completely without sense of proportion.

  5. Phil Says:

Conveniently located hair. Saves on the use of a space sheep or a C S Lewis.

  6. Tom Hering Says:

Can a mermaid keep her hair dry? Not without sorcery! Can a flying fish escape a beating from a mermaid’s tail? Not without sorcery! Can a working class captain of third world appearance win the heart of a white-skinned godess? Not without sorcery!

  7. fred Says:

    That’s a lot of hair.

  8. PulpCovers Says:

RT @GoodShowSir: New Book Cover: Not Without Sorcery http://t.co/oqU9SHvdxL

  9. Tom Noir Says:

The way the sea captain is standing is just… weird. Although I suppose not as weird as being in the middle of an ocean storm and the water only being waist deep.

  10. Tom Noir Says:

“How did someone come up with a cover like this?”

    “NOT WITHOUT SORCERY!”

  11. Rags Says:

I can only assume the flying fish is a major character in this book. Frank the orphan flying fish, who would be king of all flying fish!

What is Capt. Pervy reaching for with his left hand? OH GODS, what is Capt Pervy reaching down for with his right hand?????

  12. Bibliomancer Says:

When I first picked up this book the crappy font seemed to read Not Without SURGERY, and considering the mermaid lass that might be a more appropriate title.

Not quite sure what the half-pint Captain Kangaroo is doing standing waist-deep in the middle of the ocean.

@ Tag Wizard, please be a dear and add the author to the tags, unless he’s paid you well to leave him out of this mess.

  13. Phil Says:

Captain, that’s enough of your sauce(ry)!

  14. FearofMuşic Says:

Does that mermaid have an adam’s apple? Look at the face. I think that mermaid was born a merman. Tiny sea captain meets statuesque transsexual mermaid (hemaid? Mermale?) Online dating triumphs!

  15. David Cowie Says:

Is it time for a new tag “interspecies romance” ?

  16. The Tag Wizard Says:

Thanks Biblio! Admin and I must have crossed the streams this morning. Let us now navigate the works of Theodore Sturgeon without obstacle.

..and how could we forget: BEHIND YOU!

  17. Neal Says:

The flying fish really ties it all together.

  18. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

‘How shall we speed this ship out from behind the mermaid, Captain?’

    ‘Knots without sorcery, able seaman!’

    …I’ll get me coat.

  19. Jaouad Says:

@David Cowie: But how can we be sure this “captain” is not a merman himself? His nether regions are hidden for a reason, and I’ll bet it isn’t because he’s bowlegged…

  20. A.R.Yngve Says:

What Captain Joseph Hazelwood thought he was doing when he crashed the Exxon Valdez: Trying not to run over a lovely mermaid.

  21. Phil Says:

Can’t help thinking that the cover artist, in choosing a fishy theme, was subconsciously influenced by the author’s surname.

  22. FearöfMusic Says:

That is not a flying fish. Not with that left fin like that. Basic airflow will ensure uncontrolled roll to the left. So basically, that’s a crashing fish.

  23. A.R.Yngve Says:

Theodore Sturgeon’s NOT WITHOUT MY RUSSIAN CAVIAR

    Ba-da-bum!

  24. Stevie T Says:

It looks like the captain is strangely obsessed with her hair:

“Madam…your hair…so silky, so rich, so full of volume…I must know, how do you do it?”

  25. AMartyn Says:

Hilarious placement of the first word of the title and the quote: “Not the best collection of Sturgeon’s work ever assembled…”

  26. Jerk of all Trades Says:

Mrs. Mermaid will hold up traffic all she wants, dammit. She is seeing off her little deformed flying-fish children before they head to college. They grow up so fast! Next thing you know, they will have metamorphosed into their adult forms!

  27. Herm Says:

Do we need a “Modesty Hair” tag?

  28. B. Chiclitz Says:

    What’s that on your head?
    A wig!
    ~B-52s

  29. Anti-Sceptic Says:

“Aw c’mon baby. I swear I wasn’t looking at that other fish!”

  30. Jaouad Says:

    Modesty-preserving hair!
