I’m always puzzled by robots who wear robes. Doesn’t the lint and fluff clog their joints and pistons? Do the folds of the cloth never get snagged? Do they have other robots to go around once a week with a toothbrush to remove the congealed lube-oil and fuzz? Because it’s never the smooth, sleek Peter A Jones or Chris Foss robots who indule in ecclesiatical cosplay (Fossbots are naked and proud http://www.goodshowsir.co.uk/2012/09/the-naked-sun/), it’s the ones with exposed camshafts and hydraulics.

Conan vs. Doctor Doom! I smell a team up! Also Conan has borrowed Debbie Harry’s hairdo from the album of the same name.

  3. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

@THX: No, that’s Khan Noonien Singh there on the left.

‘Ah, Doom…I see your cowl is made of fine Corinthian leather!’

  4. SI Says:

I love the title font in this one. Looks like a 90′s fantasy board game or a chose your on adventure novel.

Let the evil robed robot give you a hair cut – turn to page 12
Kick the robot in the servo – turn to page 14

  5. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

@SI: It may well have been!

  6. Bibliomancer Says:

Looks like the cover photo isn’t the only thing getting cropped here.

  7. Tom Noir Says:

Wow, leave it to the keen eyes of GSS commenters to unearth the truth! Now that I’ve made the connection between this and early 90′s TSR I can’t UN-see it! Good show sir, indeed!

  8. Rags Says:

Ok thats definately a barbarian warrior but the robot seems to be a mix of druidic, native american with a touch of Latverian thrown in!

“I can crush you with my bare hands or my eye beams BUT NEY, i shall use this dull knife to annoy you!”

Yet another skull-on-a-belt, but this time the hero gets to wear it. Feather accessorized storage pouches seem to be all the rage this fashion season.

  10. FeârofMüsïc Says:

Ah, yet another “action” scene where the artist has managed to remove any sense of dynamic motion and make it look utterly static. How do they DO that? Is that taught in a graduate level course or something?

And is it just me or does the barbarian hairdresser seem to have ears bordering onthe elfin? Elves versus Killer Robots? No matter which side wins, we all lose.

THX: “Conan vs. Doctor Doom! I smell a team up! Also Conan has borrowed Debbie Harry’s hairdo from the album of the same name.”

Debbie Harry released an album called Conan vs. Doctor Doom!??

  12. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

@Adam: Here’s the lead off single.

  13. THX 1138 Says:

@Adam Roberts: Heh, no, but it would have been brilliant if she had. Image search “Blondie The Hunter” to see what I mean.

  14. NGpm Says:

I love that the robot has a delicate pinky extended. I think all robot assassin etiquette classes should teach such poise.

  15. B. Chiclitz Says:

Oh, ma-a-an . . . I think that Hyperborian Skunk Weed dangling from my manly skull belt is bad shit!

  16. HappyBookwyrm Says:

Maybe the android from the “high-tech arena” is wearing ancient robes so as to make the savage warrior feel more at home. I mean, he must already be going easy on the guy, barely gripping his wrist like that. (Make a note: first ever robot with feather accessories. If someone knows of another instance, please post.)

  17. A.R.Yngve Says:

It’s nice to see that those “Lone Wolf Role Playing” book covers can be recycled to save trees… uh, I mean artists.

  18. A.R.Yngve Says:

Before Siegfried met Roy, he fought robots in the Fabulous Fight Club.
