Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! I thought that they replaced Mick Jagger’s blood with a nicotine-formaldehyde mixture in the late 70s…

    This glimpse behind the scenes explains quite a bit about the covers we see here…

  3. fred Says:

    The American Graffiti font is just……wrong. Although I do wonder about the soundtrack for this cover.

  4. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

    @fred: Ask and ye shall receive!

    Do cat women dream of American Splendor’s Harvey Pekar enduring agony?

    … followed by the tongue of death, the grope of death, the intercourse of death – and of course, or of corpse, the portrait session of death! Dating the girls at art school is brutal.

  9. Tat Wood Says:

    In the face of so much oddness it may seem silly of me to pick on such a trivial point but… why is she using a paintbrush to do a pencil-sketch?

  10. Anna T. Says:

    That miniature dragon has one hell of a nosebleed. Either that, or the painting’s alive and the lizard just bit it . . . which is somewhat disturbing.

    Also, is the artist Nightcrawler’s twin sister or something?

  11. Bibliomancer Says:

    @Tat Wood – Pencil sketch? It’s a fe-line drawing.

  12. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

    @B’mancer: what [SA]HatfulOfHollow said. 😉

  13. JuanPaul Says:

    Good thing they put the “science fiction” tag in the corner or I might have mistaken it for a novel of Russian existentialism.

  14. B. Chiclitz Says:

    @Tat Wood, B’mancer—no matter what the medium, the execution is purr-fectly dreadful.

    Is it just me, or is something anatomically wrong with that forearm? It looks more like it’s a hollow tube kinked in the middle, rather than something with muscles flexing underneath blue, furry skin.

    I can’t find a synopsis of this anywhere. All I found was an interview with the author (with whom I once drank vodka with all night at a party — do not do this with someone with a name like that). He said “it’s out of print which is probably for the best.”

  18. fred Says:

    @ GSS 17 – German publication. So the cover makes some kind of sense.

    @fred: Just when you thought this cover was the worst — enter Germans!
