A hunky swordsman, an old Robin Hood character, and a strange female sorceress. Now, because our trio are wanting to keep themselves undercover, give the hunky one a Zorro mask to cover his eyebrows and nose. No-one will ever know his true identity. No-one!

Looks like he should have moved his sword a little to the left to make the top of that A.

another movie star look-alike, this time its Kurt Russell.
You do have to wonder if the eye mask really conceals his identity.

Maybe its not a mask and really someone has snuck up in the night and painted it on when he was asleep. That would explain why he’s so pissed off.

Is it just me, or is that sorceress enjoying her staff, just a little too much?

Interesting.. and slightly disturbing point Roses.
I also get the funny feeling the guy on the right just accidentally walked behind them at the time the picture was taken.. or drawn… you know what I mean.

What you think the masked man was weilding his sword for her benefit and elderly Robin Hood interrupted?
That’s just sleazy Si. Sleazy.
Note to Self: look book up on Amazon.

“Take that Salvatore! I stab your surname right through!”

“Hurry up and finish the painting, my arm is really hurting… who the hell is this guy who just walked in? … well draw him anyway i guess”
I own a total of 2 R.A Salvador books and have read neither. Again, just one of those authors who was always on the list but never made it to the top…

“I’m going to teach you both to read if it kills me. Repeat after me, R.”
That’s the best I could come up with. Time to go home.

Sing along, everybody:
“Out of the night,
when the full moon is bright,
comes the horseman known as Dorko…
He’s gay and he’s bold,
makes a D with this sword,
— the D that stands for Dorko!
Dorko! A cunning fox that ain’t he…
Dorko! Who makes the sign of the D…
Dorko!
Dorko!
Dorko…”

“Saga of the First King”… ah, nothing like “Saga” to impress the reader.
“Saga of The Really Really Sharp Sword”
“Saga of the First Outhouse”
“Saga of FIFA”
“Saga of Dubious Historical Sources”
“Saga of Fish”

What’s most remarkable about this cover is that a woman apparently older than forty appears in it.

Wait… This isn’t a family portrait by any chance?

Why did you stop at only one jaunty hat Mr. Lockwood?
September 29th, 2023 at 2:55 pm
What is that word for when you repeat the same image smaller in an image?

Say what we will about Baen, at least they made some covers that made me want to find out what was actually going on inside.
This one is just so boring, unless of course you read CSA’s art direction.

“Will you please stop calling me ‘the dread pirate Roberts’?”

@Tor: the Droste effect? It’s a nest of images in an infinite regression. Sort of like the Camp Coffee or Morton Salt, or indeed Droste cocoa. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Coffee
Or my two comments above (probably the result of one of the periodic glitches that eat my comments and submissions).

@Tat: Yes, thanks. The Droste effect. I couldn’t think of the name even though I could picture the cocoa tin.
Anyway, I mention it because I was wondering whether the person who took the photo of the book included a Droste effect by accident or on purpose.
(Maybe it’s technically not a Droste effect, strictly speaking, but it reminds me of one.)

The Dead had “Shades of Grey”. This is “Shades of Mud”. Or “Meh”.
It took me a while to see what @Tor was saying, and then came my horrifying realization that the store had 2 copies of this.

Hm.
How long do you figure it took the guy on our left to mold that amazing downward curve into his extended Robin Hood-style cap? That’s gotta take a few days and a big spray bottle of water (or something) to get it into that shape.

I wonder what John Ringo’s favorite name color is. White, yellow, orange, fade in.
October 1st, 2023 at 1:11 am
@Hammy: Possibly weeks. Maybe that’s why he’s behind, he was working on his hat again.
@fred: Red. Like blood and MAGA hats. Or whatever color his favorite booze is. Or his favorite gun.
He gives the Old West outlaw a bad name.
