Let’s have a man in a male skirt, or, say, a leather armour of sorts, stretching into the sky. We’ll have his companion lancing out with his hand just towards his crotch… Wait! This is Sci Fi? Lucky you told me. Uh, have them fighting aliens but keep the rest the same.

Don’t think this one is really that bad. But some of the angles look a little… off…

Its pretty cheesy though. Heroic poses and … male skirts…
The dude with the skirt looks like he’s about to throw a left hook into the face of that unsuspecting alien.

‘Tour of the merrimack’? Doesn’t look very merry to me.
I disagree with SI: I think this one does look bad. In fact, looking at it I made a noise a bit like ‘…meluch!!’

hahah touché!
Yea ‘Tour of the Merrimack’ sounds like it could be a Gilbert and Sullivan to me.

‘…meluch!!’, haha thats brilliant, and unfortunate if reviewers didn’t like the book

They’ve got a monster LEGO brick behind them!

This is like an MC Escher drawing. So the guy is shooting towards his right, and even though he’s not looking he’s managed to hit… the far side of the monster? A lucky shot, but it’s all for naught as someone is about to clock him with a knife.

THRILL as our heroes HEROICALLY DEPRESSURISE THE SHIP with their unrestrained PASSION! 🙂
I can’t figure out if those are wires that were ripped loose, or alien tentacles with their maws agape. ‘Uh…sorry to interrupt you boys…uh…ha-ha…you can go back to whatever it was you bum-love. Were doing. Sorry.’

“You shoot that space ship with your gun, I’ll puncture that other ship out there with my sword!”

Amazon.com made this suggestion when I searched for a used copy:
“If you liked this book, maybe you’ll also like SANDALS AND LOINCLOTHS, SWEATY GLADIATORS, THE LEATHER-CLAD CENTURION and BIG SHINY SPEARS.”

To be fair to the swordsman, his companion seems to think that leather armor will protect him from space monsters.

I wonder how exactly did the “current speculation” differ from general speculation at the time of book review?

I’m glad my library copy didn’t have this cover or I’d never have read it. It’s a pretty good book.
(The leather manskirt is explained in that some of the characters are from a reborn Roman Empire. Explained but not excused.)
