  1. Herm Says:

Now that’s not fair, striking her down from behind! …Or is Brak the chap in the background?

  2. Brian B Says:

Assuming Brak is the guy with the flail, he sure has a pretty jaunty expression on his face considering he is either a) Fighting that monster behind him who is presumably the resurrected power of the Lord of Evil or b) About to bash that hooker…I mean temple maiden…in the head.

Also it is just me or does the maiden’s bikini bottom look more like diaper? I dunno just something about the way it hangs.

  3. Evad Says:

@Brian – Stained diaper at that.

While Lord ‘o Evil looks pretty pissed it might not be at Mr & Mrs Brak. Evil is staring straight ahead. He might be on their side fighting mad at something else – like whatever caused those horns to sprout out of his shoulder.

  4. Tom Noir Says:

When Brak hits his girlfriend in the head with a mace she is going to be seriously PO’d.

  5. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

I’m convinced that Brak is the one in the background, and the power of the Lord of Evil was resurrected but VERY VERY SMALL.

  6. anon Says:

Tom, if Alfred E. Goldilocks hits her hard enough.. she won’t!
    Win-win! (Or something)

  7. Mark V Thomas Says:

Oh well, when’s Zorak, or even Space Ghost & his teenage sidekicks/minions due to turn up… ?
(Sorry, but I could not resist making a gratitious a Space Ghost reference/in-joke here… ).

  8. CarrerCrytharis Says:

Isn’t this by the ‘Black in Time’ guy? (I actually own a copy of that book — I’m not sure when (or whether) I want to read it though.)

  9. Jen Says:

Everyone has such a goofy expression! Plus, the big demon guy’s facial resemblance to Eddie Murphy (it could just be me) is creeping me out a little bit.

  10. SI Says:

It kinda looks like the guy is going to have a go at the girl. Maybe her choice of fur bikini isnt to his liking.

  11. Anrkist Says:

Sorceress = Female. So his aim is dead on. GO BRAK!

  12. jere7my Says:

And in Hawaiian, that means fish food!

  13. A.R.Yngve Says:

In Swedish, “BRAK” can mean the noise of something large breaking… or an enormous amount of “wind” breaking.

“I am Brak, whose wind is feared on all continents!”

“Not — not Brak the Flatulent Barbarian!”

    “THE SAME!”

  14. David H Says:

So, his full name is Brak Wind?

  15. A.R.Yngve Says:

In proper Swedish, the full name would be Brak Fis.

  16. Stevus Says:

    Disco Brak!

  17. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

The Hack of Brak is Attacking At the Back. 😉

  18. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

Addendum: there is something very, very wrong with the lady’s right forearm. No wonder at all she’s left-handed!

  19. anon Says:

Brak pits his mighty sword in the crevasse and flails about.

  20. Tom Noir Says:

He’s got two extra arms, but instead of holding weapons in them or something he employs them exclusively for ‘casual leaning’.

  21. Tat Wood Says:

With a name like ‘John Jakes’ this must be toilet reading for both sides of the Atlantic.

  22. Anna T. Says:

If the guy with the mace is Brak, then where’s his sword, to pit against the Lord of Evil? Because I think the Evil Lord Himself may just have gotten a hold of it.

  23. DaveM Says:

A rare still from the missing Doctor Who adventure “The swords of evil” starring John Pertwee & Katy Manning. Unconfirmed rumours say that the production was shut down after the head of the BBC informed the writers that they didn’t need to annoy Mary Whitehouse quite THAT much to get a ratings spike.

  24. B. Chiclitz Says:

I think Brak the Swordless looks a lot like
Martin Short. Maybe this novel started out as an SCTV sketch.

  25. DaveM Says:

@B. Chiclitz, it might be a generational thing but the hair still pushes it closer to Pertwee to me..

You’re all wrong. Ladies of a certain age know that’s Rex Smith, and this is even dated correctly to be him.
