Isn’t this one sort of pushing the rules? The M.Y.T.H. novels are all tongue-in-cheek comedic fantasies with strong elements of parody. The first in the series _Another Fine Myth_ is the novel that first turned me on to fantasy after I had read The Hobbit.
The more interesting part of this photo to me is the mystery of whose legs those are in the upper left of the photograph (not the book cover)?
Brian > Yep it is bending the rules just a little! But it was early.. I hadn’t had a coffee and the expression on the dragons face was too classic 😀
The “goat dragon thing” is Gleep, who regularly acts bizarre and whacky, being only a baby dragon. However, later in the series it’s revealed that even baby dragons are smarter than most humans, and Gleep just acts like an idiot because it’s fun and he can get away with it (and because he doesn’t really want his pet humans suspecting they’re his pets and not the other way around). The lizard lady is Aahz’s mother, and she’s skeeeery. Foglio’s art gets that point across a lot better.
The Myth books were pretty funny when I read them in middle school and the cover actually looks like how the characters were described in the books. The two mafia goons are Nunzio and Guido, Skeeve’s bodyguards and the chick in skimpy clothing is Tanda. She’s a trollop (you know… a female troll…hyuk, hyuk).
I’m in agreement, this is a simple drawing of some of the characters. Oh, sure, it’s weird compared to the “Twilight” series books, but those characters really are in there….
I actually read this book first, loved it so much that I went back and read all the M.Y.T.H. books. 🙂
The books are great fun. I think Phil Foglio’s art in the original printings captured their spirit of fantasy lunacy best. This art, not so much, however well-intentioned.

Somebody just goosed the blue goat-serpent creature, but it’s not clear, from the layout, who the guilty party is.

“This is what a life time of prostitution does to you. Turns you into a lizard.”

Fair enough! I do have to admit that I wonder what the old lizard lady is saying to get the dragon to have such a whacky reaction!

Y’know what — I can’t say anything mean about such a deliberately wacky and whimsical cover. The little old lizard lady won me over.

Me thinks we need a new cover.

Always prefered the artwork of Folio for the Myth series…
btw, Tanda is green skinned…

Yeah, this one doesn’t belong here. It’s supposed to be funny!
And no, Tanda is not green skinned, but green haired.

Swinging London went sour when the Krays tried LSD for the first time.

I think this is the first time that I’ve seen a lizard in sensible shoes.

GLEEP~!
Not gonna lie…for a home ec. project in school, I made a plush dragon with that exact same expression. 😀

Can’t figure out why everything this author writes gives me a headache.
