“Tonight on Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle, I’d like to talk about Urban Fantasy. You know that ‘tough woman hunts supernatural creatures’ sub-genre of inane escapism targeted at semi-retarded media junkies…”
Adam Roberts was possibly being facetious when he said the hunk on the right looked like a young Stewart Lee, but the guy is apparently named Kyle Schmidt and he’s the actor who plays the 450-year-old vampire in the original series on Lifetime. I wondered why the woman looked familiar until i saw the smaller print and figured it out.
Sorry i don’t get jokes about Stewart Lee or Richard Herring since i don’t really know who they are. Anyway, who would be considered the artist for a book cover that’s from a photograph of actual people? The cover designer?
This is the grande finale scene, where the androgynous-female type character, sprays the androgynous-male type character with her super soaker of kool-aid!!!

Bonus points: No cleavage, realistic everyday people, no ass turned to the front.
Bad points: Nerf gun… won’t be buying.

Red white. Two words. Series title. Author name. Book title. Red white.
Any font you choose, however.

I must say Richard Herring is a lot less attractive-looking now than he was then.

Other titles in this series:
“Blood Trail”
“Blood Lines”
“Blood Pact”
“Blood Debt”
“Blood Bank”
This is not a joke.

The very idea!

Adam, you should have a doctor check that out.

So is this a series based on a show or a show based on a series? And how much is Nerf getting for the product placement?

What, no Blood BATH in that series? Blood GROUP? Blood STAIN? Blood CLOT? Blood BROTHERS? Oh wait, that one’s taken.
Del, photographers are artists too. Or so they claim…

A vampire book with pointy bits on the font. I’m gobsmacked.

Not so much Stewart Lee as an uncharacteristically long-haired Max Beesley.

The show was based on the series of books and the books were pretty good.

So, that’s where the yellow submarine went.

I think that’s one of the Van Halen brothers….
August 22nd, 2012 at 4:41 am
Surely the other titles in the series would be
Blood Ties
Blood Belts
Blood Shoes
Blood Coat
Blood Scarf
Accessorize!

Ian, this brings us to the nub of the problem with the cover design. I assumed BLOOD TIES was the series title, and BLOOD PRICE was the volume title.
With this assumption, I project that the volumes should run as follows:
Blood Price
Blood Cushing
Blood Chaney
Blood Lugosi
Blood Karloff
Blood Lee

The text layout (note the clumsy use of red letters!) can be misread hilariously:
TANYA _ _ __ HUFF
BLOOD
PRICE

“Blood Ties — Stylish Neckwear For Neck Lovers”

I suppose Huff Price is a misspelling of “half price”.
