  1. THX 1138 Says:

Costigan called. He said can you change the title to Costigan’s Mighty Thrusting Monolith?

  2. Tat Wood Says:

it’s about tiny people trying to get off a meat-feats pizza to the far-off lands of poppadom-and-chutney on the horizon.

  3. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

It’ll be a fantastic adventure. In time.

Now? Not so much. Mostly pointy.

  4. fred Says:

Serious lack of clothing options on this planet. I like the 2 figures way in the background pointing in different directions.

  5. Joachim Says:

Umm, no to the post in general. One of my favorite covers. The colors, the space needle, the AMAZING landscape. Boo boo boo boo boo. The perfect pulp sci-fi cover creation.

  6. hestia Says:

I think this is a great cover, too. And you can’t blame the tiny people for running: they’re being attacked by a giant black clothespin.

  7. Smith Says:

Part of the Haberdashery Sequence, other titles being Costigan’s Thimble, Costigan’s Crochet Hook and Costigan’s Pinking Shears.

  8. Ian Says:

Sadly they have no rope to thread this needle.

  9. Adam Roberts Says:

There used to be a SF writer named ‘[X]-OHL’ for every letter of the alphabet, Sadly, only Frederick Pohl and Jerry Sohl have survived.

  10. Jaouad Says:

Does anyone have a camel? There’s something I need to test…

  11. SI Says:

Meh… Wellworths needles were just as good and half the price.

  12. A.R.Yngve Says:

    COSTIGAN’S OVERCOMPENSATION

  13. A.R.Yngve Says:

“Look out, the aliens are starting to do cross-stitches! RUN!!”

  14. Anti-Sceptic Says:

Is it me, or is that “needle” making everyone do the twist?

  15. Tat Wood Says:

Something something camel, something something SpaceX

  16. Emster Says:

“Oh that’s just great,” Sue muttered, “Large darning needle = large holey socks. So much for this futuristic time travel adventure, looks like we’re back where we started…”

  17. fred Says:

Not knowing anything about the book, I’ll be very disappointed if the needle doesn’t actually stitch time.

  18. GSS ex-noob Says:

Is the eye of the needle some kind of portal? The guy at it seems to be dematerializing.

@Tat (2): I happened to catch a few minutes of a “Land of the Giants” episode a couple of weeks ago. A few in that I was wise enough to turn it off quickly before my brain cells could commit suicide. Your comment reminded me of that.

I was also reminded of how we made fun of it at the time (though we did appreciate the talents of the over-sized prop makers), and that my older brother explained the square-cube law to me to show how impossible it all was.

  19. Bruce A Munro Says:

    Worst. Interdimensional portal. Ever.

I had some other ideas for comments, but I think I’ll just stick a pin in it for now.

  20. B. Chiclitz Says:

“Hey, you call that a beard? Looks like you glued a brillo pad to your face. And that jumpsuit looks like a trash bag with a belt. And why can’t you come up with a plan to get out of here? You always brag about how smart you are, but you’re just standing around like a doofus. And another thing . . . .”

“I swear Costigan, if you don’t stop needling me I’ll blast you.”

  21. Hammy Says:

Ya know, sewing together space-time works much better if you stick the point of the needle in the fabric of space-time. The eye of the needle isn’t as effective….

  22. Bruce A Munro Says:

@Hammy: maybe it’s being pushed _up_ through the fabric of space-time? (Now I’m imagining the whole landscape sitting in the lap of Cosmic Granny)

  23. GSS ex-noob Says:

“Oh no, the legends are true! There IS a giant underground granny doing embroidery on this planet! Damn you, Costigan! Run for your lives, men! We’re doomed if she’s doing a satin stitch!”

  24. B. Chiclitz Says:

@GSSxn—I guess they call it “Costigan’s Needle” because he’s such a prick.

  25. GSS ex-noob Says:

    @BC: GSS!
