Durbin Comments: In a shocking development, skateboards actually happen in this novel. And there is, in fact, an elf inspiration for Sherlock Holmes. And a brief part of the novel occurs in New York City! But otherwise, the cover gives a completely misleading impression of the contents.

There’s a tail sticking out of the second-storey window on the right. I’m intrigued as to whose it could be.

Sherlock must be looking for the missing exclamation point in the title.

I cry FOUL! Walter Velez is quite clearly copying his own dragon, as seen elsewhen on this site.

Aha, that detective is in fact “Sherlock Spock,” one very obscure Swedish cartoon character (not making this up!!)…

I’m not sure what inspired me to actually read these novels, because even as a kid, these kinds of covers threw me off. But I enjoyed them nonetheless, and they still have space on my shelves.
P.S. “Skateboard girl” is dead at this point of the novel, and most often manifests as the slightly crazy ghost of a dragon. ‘Cause, you know, who needs accuracy?
