Many thanks to Cowles!

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! “Traffic is a bitch today!”

  2. Phil Says:

Cyclops! Winged monkeys! Pony tail! This cover has everything. Except good taste.

  3. CaptainEff Says:

UPS? Who’d have thought they delivered via flying carpet!

  4. THX 1138 Says:

“Sim sala bim and – bloody hell, these things are difficult to steer!” Nice day for it, though.

  5. The Tag Wizard Says:

    Dungeons not included.

  6. Tom Hering Says:

Hmm. Looks like my country’s war on terror has managed to reduce the funds available for Al Qaeda training missions.

  7. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

@TW: a quick look in the Wikipaedia shows that the dragons have been held off of the cover.

It says, ‘Costikyan lives in New York City near his three daughters’. Presumably, he can visit one or more if he has movement points left over. 🙂

  9. Tom Noir Says:

Is it really a good idea to let the guy with no depth perception drive the flying carpet??

  10. Bibliomancer Says:

Presumably once these two runaway flying carpets collide only the winged-monkey drivers can fly to a safe landing.

  11. FeärofMúsic Says:

Ponytail Man seems to be the one who has a problem. He appears to be the only one affected by gravity.

  12. dpn Says:

They all look like randomly posed action figures.

  13. fred Says:

Sponsored by MADD, Monkeys Against Drunk Dungeoneering.

  14. HappyBookwyrm Says:

Ha Ha! Love it! I presume that there is some sort of force field keeping the people on the father-away carpet upright. Otherwise “sword-man posing menacingly for no reason” and “man cheering jubilantly for no reason” are in serious trouble.

  15. Jane Says:

Those flying carpets need sword racks. Also, is that a mugging in progress on the left-hand carpet?

  16. B. Chiclitz Says:

Speaking of “depth perception” @Tom Noir—the use of perspective is so clumsy on this cover. Cyclops and Ponytail Man are holding an invisible support pole that goes right through the monkey’s head, the rear carpet appears to be in the act of crashing into the dome, and there’s nothing at all behind those mountains, though from our line of sight there should be more world back there. A worthy cover indeed!

  17. Jane Says:

The people and flying carpets are actually decals stuck on a window with a view of a Middle Eastern city. The decals weren’t centered properly which explains why the people look like they are about to fall to their deaths.

  18. Tom Noir Says:

Also, looking at this cover I have a strong sense that the cyclops is actually named ‘David’.

  19. Adam Roberts Says:

Take it away, Kool and the Gang! (*sings*( Ups and sor-cer-y I said a ups-and-sorcery … How you gonna do it if you really don’t want to dance. By standing on the wall. Get your back up off the wall. Ups and sor-cer-y I said a ups-and-sorcery)

  20. A.R.Yngve Says:

    Or:
“Come on, vogue! Let your cyclops move to the music…”

  21. Ian Says:

    Could be book one of:

Cups and Sorcer (makes sense to me)
    Ups and Sorcer
    Ups and Sorcery
    Cups and Sorcery

  22. Tom Noir Says:

There appears to be incredibly stiff competition among mosques in the city they’re flying over. There’s not just one on every corner… the city seems to consist exclusively of mosques.

  23. Tat Wood Says:

Hang on.. the guy in the green smock, middle of the second carpet… that’s Andre the Giant from ‘The Princess Bride’. So imagine how big the rest of his posse must be.

  24. Tat Wood Says:

@Adam Roberts: er, that’s the Gap Band. Lucky they didn’t do the rowing-boat dance on the carpets.

  25. Anti-Sceptic Says:

This cover just makes me smile.

  26. anon Says:

Look at the little dude in green shirt trying to pull the ponytailed guy off his carpet. That’s just rude!
