Tom Noir’s Art Direction: Alright, with this book we’re targeting that often over-looked pre-teen girl fantasy market. What do pre-teen girls like? Cats and unicorns. Wait! I have it. There’s a girl, but she’s also a unicorn! What do you mean that doesn’t make sense? Make it happen! Oh, and make sure she has a cat.

Frank Comments: Saw this at the Friends of the Library sale where I volunteer, and remembered one of my brothers had a copy of it when I was very young. I remember being very creeped out by the image of the stuffing coming out of the open head. And they did it again on the back cover!

Dead Stuff with Big Teeth’s Art Direction: Gentlemen…perhaps what this cover needs is both a man, and a horse! Yes! And another man with a mullet, showing he doesn’t know how to ride a horse. And… a girl wearing nothing but body paint, standing at the top of a staircase! Because, gentlemen: nobody would otherwise pay money for something a woman has written!
(the senior partners, followed by everyone else in the room, erupt in a perfect storm of applause. The junior copyrighter wipes a tear from his eye)
