  1. Francis Boyle Says:

So the answer to Bibliomancer’s question from yesterday is: it’s both nude German and ridiculous hat week, intrusive titles notwithstanding.

Also, what is this? Amputee porn?

  2. THX 1139 Says:

When Sky TV bought the rights to Mastermind.

  3. FrankN.Stein Says:

I didn’t expect the German Science Fiction.

  4. Tat Wood Says:

The real reason ‘Star Maidens’ didn’t get a second series.

  5. fred Says:

Damn you VON DEN STERNEN, if you weren’t covering up the hovering wossname we would be able to see what it is and the cover would then make total sense.

  6. B. Chiclitz Says:

Today’s sternen is definitely better rendered than the one from the other day, even with the tan lines.

  7. Max Bathroom Says:

I never knew the Mekon had a German girlfriend…

  8. Tor Mented Says:

My German is a bit rusty. Is the translation of this title “The Jeweled Ass Hat”?

  9. Leak Says:

@fred, @Francis Boyle: that thing behind the text is a dirty plate with what’s left of a carton of Miracoli – and that’s why she’s fading into the chair making a that “hmpf!” face: so she doesn’t have to do those dishes…

    @Tor Mented: close enough.

  10. GSS ex-noob Says:

I looked at the entire GSS collection of Jo Clayton, and ALL the Diadem books, in whatever language, feature starkers-ness. And badonkadonk. Or, in naval terms, der stern.

Apparently this future has no clothing for women?

@FB (1): GSS! I think it might be a UFO-shaped hat, which is pretty ridiculous, jawohl.

  11. JuanPaul Says:

Yeah, future retro furniture turns me on too.

  12. Bruce A Munro Says:

Does “Diadem” mean “armchair” in Germany? Some such confusion might explain the haunted space-chair.

(Personally I like the notion of a space-armchair, with death rays in the arm rests. Travel space in comfort, as long as it has a force field to keep a breathable atmosphere in and a fold out foot rest for your space-slippers…)

  13. Tat Wood Says:

After Missy and the thirteenth Doctor it was clearly time for Davros to get a makeover.

  14. Caustic Lizard Says:

This is also the cover of AKA: A Cosmic Fable by Rob Swigart. As a book about seeking the horny substance orgone, it makes so much more sense there.

  15. A. R. Yngve Says:

Jokes aside, covers like these make me appreciate the grace and human kindness that prevents women writers from strangling their publishers….
