He does not look like a happy man. Maybe he is angry his machine doesn’t work.

Before Orr started dreaming, _The Lathe of Heaven_ was different (specifically, he was a gorilla whose dreams altered reality).

Hi, I’m Tiziano Cremonini 🙂
I made this cover when I was very young (Art/Design student).
Yes, this is not the best piece I did 😀
Now I am 50: I see this illustration and think it’s terrible!
However, I think is very useful to pay attention to critics to increase the quality of artwork. Now I hope my art is better than this one…
Best Wishes

Just to clarify: It’s been a few years since I read The Lathe of Heaven… there’s not actually a gorilla in the book, is there?
Ooooh… Maybe he saw it on the cover of some sci-fi/fantasy book in that weird bookstore he visits?!

Hi Tiziano, welcome to Good Show Sir! Thanks for the link to your portfolio – do you still do hand-painted work or is it mostly CG these days?
November 4th, 2010 at 7:43 pm
Hi Justin, now I work mostly with 3D or digital painting, but the last page of my portfolio contains some illustrations hand-painted. Actually I’m working also in packaging, drawing plants and fruits with airbrush or aquarell.
About this cover: when I was a student, I submitted my first drawings to some publisher (I was also a sci-fi reader). Editrice Nord decided to adapt my artwork to this romance. It was not a commission!
Bye

I am glad to know that this was a pre-existing piece of art adapted into a cover and that there wasn’t an artist that said “Okay, this Ursula K. LeGuin book is PRETTY good, but it really needs a gorilla and a circuit board!”

I don’t care what the advertising says, I don’t trust this new “GoogleBrain” gadget.
