I wonder why this book isn’t so popular in Ruth’s library. Could it have ANYTHING to do with the cover? Surely not.

Hierawfulmost Bosch.

I’ve read that book and given it as gifts. Not only is it an excellent read, the cover is actually quite accurate to the story. 🙂 A normal dude, a punk rocker, a prom queen, an alien and a bowling ball go on a space adventure and meet aliens. How else would you illustrate that?

“Sorry, we’re full.”

I bought this book when I was a teenager and always loved the cover. It is pretty accurate as far as the story. I remember enjoying the story but haven’t read it in years.

That sweater vest is the most disturbing thing on this cover.

Paul asked “How else would you illustrate that?”
I answer with the even more GSS-worthy first edition (apologies for the eBay link, but it’s the only online image I could find):

@ fred #6: More disturbing than the eyeless half serpent/half poledancer …. thing? Surely not.

@Phil: Yikes, that is one horrible cover.

You’ve heard of Monsters Inc.? This is Monsters ick.

OK, now I’ve seen what a snake-woman hybrid in a bustier and wig would look like. Not on my bucket list, but I guess it counts as an accomplishment.

Shouldn’t the title be “Friday Night At The CBGB”?

Good heavens. My husband reads me books while I prep/cook dinner, and he read me this one because he had fond high school memories of it. It really hasn’t aged well, but the cover IS pretty accurate.

@ Fred #6 @ David #8: More disturbing than the COFFIN DOOR? (In a setting where no two characters would have the same shape coffin, no less?)

“Hold it right there mister. Let me see some ID”

I like how bouncer #2 has his left hand on his hip like a cop putting his hand on his gun….wait a minute.

There is just sooo much to be said about this cover….Oh, there’s Waldo!
February 12th, 2013 at 10:35 pm
As several people have already mentioned, the cover is accurate as to the contents. However, I would say it was also quite accurate as to the whole tone of the story (silly and OTT(but still thoroughly enjoyable)).
In fact, it was the whole silliness of the cover that made me want to read it in the first place. Odd that similar covers for the Discworld books done by Josh Kirby had the opposite effect….

Busy! Oh so busy!! And the colors! So bright! This cover should have one of those warnings for people with epilepsy. Prolonged exposure to this artwork may trigger seizures.

As people have said, the cover well represents the book (an attempt to rip-off Hitchhiker’s Guide). IIRC, the cover is done by James Gurney of Dinotopia fame.

Glory Lane, the artist paints another character…Very strange!

This cover actually attracted me as a kid. Granted, it is a bit much. It is a fun read.

Glory? LAME.

Leather jacket, pin stripe
Three humans in a line
Drop ship, blue smoke
Hippo commandant just spoke
Green echidna, floating orb
Lady in the back looks bored
Aquarium to walk the brain
Art director’s gone insane
We didn’t start the fire…
