Scott B Comments: It looks like there’s some serious industrial-grade symbolism happening on this cover, but I have no idea what it is. An albino woman with some sort of aboriginal figure superimposed (or inside her?) surrounded by Fire (and with weird fiery-squiggle aura around the woman) over a background of Earth and Water. It feels like it should really mean something but…

Ian Comments: This is not a terrible cover – it quite accurately depicts the book’s contents. It’s the UK edition cover. The US cover follows..

Ian comments: This is what the US publisher used for the book. It is, incidentally, a steampunk space opera, with Victorians in space.

Joachim’s Art Direction: For our story about ALIEN talking space bears let’s mix it with some Earth myth — you know, Goldilocks and the Three Bears– and since it’s for boys, a SWORD and a HUGE glass of beer (bear beer?)…

Good Show Sir’s Art Direction: A tasteful way to cover up male nudity? I know what you mean… how about we cover up his nudity with a naked women on her knees, in front of his “blade!” What? How is that even remotely sexist!? Oh…. well… do it anyway.

You know what always bugged the hell out of me about the whole north verses south thing? No dragons or magic crystal orbs. The north frees the south of: dragons! Right there on the cover, with King Lincoln watching the battle on his orb! It almost makes me proud to be Americaglish… or whatever.

Pictures cannot describe the shine I want on this cover. Eyes will turn and minds will be altered. I want… NO… I need a guy floating in the air in the ol’ Jesus cross pose having left behind a dimensional portal. Have some dude popping out only to find a sexy women in knee highs and a tight leather dress. It’s just like those magic shows……
