Guys, when you asked if I'd like my bachelor party in a cathouse, I was thinking of something different.Click for full image

Tom Noir’s Art Direction: “This cover is a work of art! A triumph! Baen’s crowning achievement! And to celebrate gentlemen, I give you: collectible miniature figurines!”

Published 1990

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Feels so good!Good Show Sir! (Average: 6.03 out of 10)

  1. Tom Noir Says:

Does this mean it’s cat people week at GSS?

    AWWWWWWW YEAAAAAAAH!

  2. Tat Wood Says:

On the left, a sword and knee-boots; on the right, combat armour and a laser-rifle; in the centre, twerking.

And I have the theme from ‘The New Avengers’ running in my head.

  3. JuanPaul Says:

@TW Clearly she is the scout, and for a scout to move silently, she would wear no clinking armor, or even clothing that might make a slight rubbing sound. Right? Right?

  4. Tom Noir Says:

@JP I think her appearance might generate a slight rubbing sound regardless.

  5. fred Says:

    Cat people got tail armor.

  6. Bibliomancer Says:

Creepy, but less creepy than yesterday’s cat lady.

  7. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

Misread the author as ‘Dean, Inc.’ Presumably in the rest of the world, he would be ‘Dean LLC’.

  8. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

Has anyone read this? Do we know for sure that it’s about a Catholic Louse?

  9. THX 1138 Says:

I’m not sure they know what a cathouse is. To busy deaning?

  10. Anna T. Says:

I’m feeling strong NSFW catperson orgy vibes. And they gross me out.

  11. Francis Boyle Says:

Coquettish kitty has a mane. I salute Baen’s progressive approach to non-traditional gender presentation.

  12. Ray P Says:

@Tat One needed a bowler and a furl umbrella.

I immediately thought: cowardly lion, tin-man, scarecrow.

  13. Yoss Says:

Looks like it could be an escort mission.

  14. MisterBob Says:

Just how many cats do you see,if you look at it long enough ?

  15. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

    @MrB: dunno, I’ve become catatonic.

(hits the floor as the pun war commences)

  16. Tom Noir Says:

Oh yes, the fur is about to fly.

  17. JuanPaul Says:

If we could skip the puns, I would be purrfectly happy.

  18. L.B. Says:

@Tom Noir – the claws come out for this cat fight!

  19. Ikari Gendo Says:

Can we put the pun war on paws.

  20. GSS ex-noob Says:

Please make it Cat People Week. (And maybe use my submissions? But it would be awesome even if not)

Is the title “oh so shiny”? I bet it is.

Even furries look at this and go “nah, too much.”

Cover implies Kzin pr0n; contents are likely gun pr0n.

    I punned on yesterday’s cover.

    clicks through
Dear sweet baby Jesus. Those ARE collectible miniatures of this cover. As if it wasn’t terrible enough in 2D.

    braaahhhm BAEN! explosion meow!

  21. A.R.Yngve Says:

I’m trying VERY HARD to set up a pun involving the phrase “Sad Kittys”, but I’m getting nowhere.

Also, I suspect the loins on that cat lady were purrloined from a picture of a human.

  22. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

@Tom 1: on the one hand, tomorrow’s cover features crabby ladies rather than cat girls.

On the other hand, every week is Cat People Week at GSS! 😉

  23. JuanPaul Says:

“c’mon Donald, try to grab this pussy!”

  24. Tag Wizard Says:

    @GSS ex-noob #20 – Check your email

  25. GSS ex-noob Says:

@TW: Erm. Heh. That’s an account that deletes mail a few times a day. So, um…

(I didn’t know I was going to stick around!)

  26. Tag Wizard Says:

@GSSXN – An email account that deletes mail a few times a day? That’s kind of like putting a paper shredder behind your door mail slot.

  27. GSS ex-noob Says:

It’s for things what make you register, then they send you a login/opinion link or whatever, but you don’t want them sending you things ever again or selling your email address for nefarious purposes. The email equivalent of a burner phone. I got it for the farce that was the “Dragon Awards”.

Is it important enough I should send you a functional one? What’s your email here, [email protected] or summat?

  28. Hammy Says:

    TW, GSSXN (@26 & 27) – aka a “spam trap” email address….

  29. GSS ex-noob Says:

    ‘Zackly.

  30. A.R.Yngve Says:

Q: What is the purest definition of “Trying Too Hard”?
    A: This book cover.

  31. Tor Mented Says:

@Tag: Surely it needs a “jaunty hip” tag.

  32. Tat Wood Says:

If the “Cats” film had been as big a hit as “Barbie”, this would be in production right now.

  33. Bruce A Munro Says:

“But I don’t _want_ to be anatomically human from the neck down!”
“Sorry, kid. This is Baen. Make that hip a bit jauntier, will you?”

  34. GSS ex-noob Says:

@Tor, Bruce: Exactly! Some of us have been agitating for that tag for YEARS! This is a primo example of it.

It does seem to have gotten the attention of both tomcats, which is good for any hairless apes in the vicinity. Kitty got back?

@Tat: There but for the grace of God…

Why they always gotta make the ears too small? Why is her tail as long as her body? And why is she out there anyway? (other than to attract sad boy readers)

  35. fred Says:

Foliage is the perfect color for a cluster of camoflaged cats, if they’ll ditch the armor.

  36. Hammy Says:

    Not surprisingly, I am confused….

“At last! Complete in One Volume! A Novel of the Man-Kzin Wars” implies that this novel was once spread across at least two volumes, possibly more.

Seems odd that they’d not say “The Cathouse Trilogy, Now in One Volume!” instead. I mean, isn’t that the usual way of raking in the dough in the world of mega-dollar SF publishing – spread one novel’s worth of content over three books?

  37. Dave Van Domelen Says:

Sadly, the miniatures link is now a 404.

  38. Ryan Says:

Is Green Army Cat’s helmet translucent or something? Twerky Cat’s tail seems to be intruding into its physical space.

  39. GSS ex-noob Says:

@Ryan: I don’t think his helmet has a faceplate either; look how his chin whiskers hang out.

Whether it’s translucent showing… I dunno what, or reflective, showing Sir Thingy Not Appearing In This Scene will remain a mystery to all.

But you can’t expect GI Joe Cat to remain logical with Miss Jaunty Hip flaunting her excessive tail at him. Perhaps the power of her twerk enables her tail to pass through solid matter or some force field helmet replacement. Or the artist didn’t do final cleanup.

@Dave: Is “sadly” really the correct word to use there? I’d be more likely to say “thank God”.

  40. JJYoyo Says:

While we’re on the subject of tags, is there a feline/Kzin/Baen/icky version of the Sir Mix-a-lot tag?

  41. NomadUK Says:

    Kitteh sings the blues …

    At last
    My love has come along
    My lonely days are over
And life is like a song
    Oh, yeah, yeah.

  42. Hammy Says:

    @DaveVD (#37), GSSxn ((#39):

    You mean this page?

    https://www.darkswordminiatures.com/shop/cat-warrior-with-laser-gun/

  43. Bruce A Munro Says:

That articulated tail armor looks very pinchy.

  44. GSS ex-noob Says:

@Hammy: GSS! Good re-finding so we can once again experience the full horror. I guess they had to drop the Kzin name and go for generic cat people.

Why do the photos of the painted ones look so much like photos of a flat 2-D representation? Weird technique.

@Bruce: It really does. Kitties are going to be getting their tails pinched every time they move them. Twerky Cat is flaunting her un-pinched tail at the boys. “Ha ha, look what I can do.”
