  1. Bruce A Munro Says:

So… “Carnacki, the Ghost Finder”, for the 70s? (Now, with more beach movie dance numbers!)

  2. THX 1139 Says:

If only there was a subtle clue on the cover as to what this was about.

  3. Francis Boyle Says:

BDSM porn for deaf people. I never knew they were so progressive in the Seventies.

Helen Keller like you’ve never seen her before!

Devil Devil, you’ve torn your dress/ Devil Devil, your face is a mess,,,

  7. Verylatetotheparty Says:

Well at least the font matches the go go dancing – more Austin Powers than dark powers.

  8. fred Says:

Back care is an important health concern. That’s a very non-ergometric height for a sacrificial altar.

  10. THX 1139 Says:

Best not read this in company – it’s one to ‘av alone.

  11. Bibliomancer Says:

She’s wearing a halter top. And a halter bottom.

  12. Tat Wood Says:

“Fighting for Reason and Right against the Devil and his disciples”

    (6) Stole that Bowie allusion right out from under me nose. GSS!

    (12) In this regard, I am waiting for the sequel, The Satan Lawyer by Rudy Giuliani.

  15. GSS ex-noob Says:

Is she fumigating the ol’ sacrificial dungeon with the purple smoke, or only her right elbow? It’s perhaps the oddest detail on this cover.

@GSS: GSS! The Macarena was indeed hell, particularly when the kid across the street played it over and over and over. Craig Ferguson agreed, he always said the singers were in league with Satan. So this cover may have been prophetic.

@Bruce: this cover isn’t remotely as terrifying as that one.

@B’mancer: not, strictly speaking, halter. More like scarves.

    @Tat, @Tor: GSS.

  16. Bruce A Munro Says:

@GSS ex-noob: I think it’s just mood purple smoke. Wasn’t Jimi Hendrix into purple hazes?

  17. GSS ex-noob Says:

@Bruce: Some purple haze smoke might go a ways to explaining this cover.

  18. Ray P Says:

“She was the kind of dame who spelled trouble with a D.”

  19. Ray P Says:

The towels provided in these dungeons are so small.

    Gimme a “D”!
    Gimme a “E”!
    Gimme a “V”!
    Gimme a “I”!
    Gimme a “L”!

What do we say? “Goooooo Devil!”

  21. Verylatetotheparty Says:

@Anti-Sceptic: She must have been practicing those moves in front of a mirror, she’s doing the L the wrong way round.

  23. GSS ex-noob Says:

@anon: first line sums it all up. I’m going to call her Chloe Lava from now on.

“Vile, idle VD #3” might be better — implies a series of books like this apparently is, or states that they’re getting the #3 VD (which maybe is chlamydia).
