Alice Comments: She doesn’t have to outrun the wolf and snake. She just has to outrun her boyfriend!

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! At least Barbie gets a 3D Ken, this loser she’s stuck with is basically a paper doll with tabs for his clothes.

  2. misterbob Says:

Surely needs a ” Bradley Walsh Has Left the Building ” tag ?

  3. Francis Boyle Says:

The Chase was also the title of one of the earliest Doctor Who stories. So roughly 30 years before this. It still managed to have vastly superior visuals.

  4. Bibliomancer Says:

I think she’s running away from the wolf, the snake AND the boyfriend.

  5. Ryan Says:

So the dis-assembling modular home is behind the snake, but in front of the wolf and the disembodied Hitler Youth head? At least all human feet are obscured.

  6. Bruce A Munro Says:

Looks like a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure with a teen supernatural romance theme.

  7. fred Says:

They are either running like they are in a Benny Hill skit or doing the slow motion for speed Six Million Dollar Man effect.

  8. Adzel Says:

The guy running for his life while giving the thumb’s up is either a devout optimist…or he read ahead to the final chapter.

  9. Tat Wood Says:

As far as I can work out, the planet’s diameter is only about 100 metres so the wolf could just stay put and wait for them to come back around.

  10. JuanPaul Says:

He’s wearing a blue jump suit. He must have been called into fix the furnace and botched the job. Or he’s the next host of MST3K.

  11. A.R.Yngve Says:

    So, which Pokémons are these?

  12. THX 1139 Says:

Now THIS is what Charlie Sheen signed up for!

My eyes!!! I can’t imagine how loud this is IRL.

They picked a bunch of colors which are terrible separately and put them all together. Ditto the fonts, and didn’t bother with perspective.

I’m surprised to see the publication date, I’d have guessed 5 years earlier.

Is everything virtual except Barbie and maybe Evil Blond Benedict Cumberbatch? Possibly the snake.

  14. B. Chiclitz Says:

For some random reason I am really enjoying pretending I hear the Monkees’ theme song playing behind this cover. Try it, it’s quite funny.

  15. GSS ex-noob Says:

Hey hey it’s The Chase now,
Bad cover for the gang at GSS

and I can’t bother to do any more. Filk amongst yourselves

  16. Tat Wood Says:

@Francis Boyle: so that must be Part Four, ‘Journey Into Terror’, where they’re in a haunted house exhibit at the Festival of Ghana and the Daleks are defeated by animatronic Dracula (but not the big staircase, as one might have thought).

  17. GSS ex-noob Says:

@Tat: I don’t remember Ian and Barbara having that sort of hair.

There is a chance of that being a connection, though!

  18. Tat Wood Says:

@GSS ex-Noob: Barbara’s hair is justifiably revered and should have won an architectural award. Vicki’s hair changed a lot between scenes in Part One but I suspect these two are the people who had the hot-dog concession. Or maybe she’s Roslyn de Winter, famous for the silliest credit in the history of the series* and cast here as ‘The Grey Lady’. (She’s the one who randomly shouts ‘Unshriven’ whenever they decide a scene isn’t silly enough). Dunno who he is.

(*In ‘The Web Planet’: “Insect Movement Roslyn de Winter”.)

  19. B. Chiclitz Says:

@GSSxn—Good effort at parody, but it’s not easy with that tune. I was just thinking of the actual theme song from the TV show, in its original glory, as a backdrop for this cover. Like, when the film starts going real fast as those zany cutups do their zany thing, it works great for this cover.

  20. GSS ex-noob Says:

@BC: I hope this lot isn’t soon “coming to your town”. Or anyone’s town.

@Tat: You certainly know your early Doctor details! As the chap appears to be an NPC, it doesn’t matter who he is.
