Good Show Sir Comments: When Voiha Wakes … he’ll be missing a kidney.

Published 1983

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Feels so good!Good Show Sir! (Average: 7.38 out of 10)

  1. THX 1139 Says:

    Minnie Driver doesn’t have time for tartan travel blankets.

  2. Francis Boyle Says:

    When Voiha Wakes s/he will be pleasantly refreshed. Picking space-daisies is just such darn hard work but it’s nothing a good nap can’t cure. And then they’ll all stroll home for (space) tea. The end.

  3. THX 1139 Says:

    “Voiha… voiha… ha… ha… CHOO!!!”

  4. fred Says:

    I want to know how that ginormous rock got its way to the top of one of those mountain spires.

  5. A.R.Yngve Says:

    What this cover needs is more stuff:

    1. A badly written blurb, preferably worded as a convoluted rhetorical question (such as “Will Voiha fulfil his destiny as savior of Generica or succumb to the Quest Nap of Fate?”)

    2. A “Foreword by Isaac Asimov”

    3. A “First Printing Anywhere!” spiky tag

    4. A choppy review quote removed from a meaningful context: “Spellbinding […] Imaginative […] Epic.”

    5. The tagline “ANDRE NORTON PRESENTS.”

  6. Bibliomancer Says:

    When Voiha Wakes … we can get this damn novel started.

  7. Tor Mented Says:

    The Marvel comics adaptation would be titled “When Wakes Voiha.”

  8. Tor Mented Says:

    Be sure to read the exciting sequels, “When Voiha Hits the Snooze Button” and “When Voiha Rolls Over and Takes All the Covers.”

  9. Tat Wood Says:

    No, the title’s an instruction not to joy-chant while Voiha’s asleep .We can later, but we’ll need Space Sheep for her unless there’s a discarded shirt out of shot.

  10. Ryan Says:

    Neeho had Voiha in a creditable pin, and would have earned the point had not the referee left his zither lying in the meadow.

  11. Verylatetotheparty Says:

    ‘I hope Voiha wakes soon, because I can’t feel my legs anymore.’

  12. JuanPaul Says:

    “Are you going get up or are you just going to lyre there all day?”

    Orpheus just isn’t feeling it.

  13. NomadUK Says:

    At first glance, I saw ‘When Vodka Wakes’, and it seemed like a good idea.

  14. B. Chiclitz Says:

    When Voiha wakes . . . he’ll still be crushed that he can’t afford those fabulous shoes!

    (I could have sworn I posted this earlier. Must be watching too many old baseball replays.)

    @B’Mancer—GSS! 😉

  15. GSS ex-noob Says:

    I am slightly unsure of the gender of the sitting person.

    And if Voiha will wake before the tidal forces of that giant suspiciously close moon tear the place apart.

    Also, that’s a zither, not a lute. Like the narrator in RHPS, it has no neck. I demand a correction! Or, rather, it’d be nice if there was one.

    And can we get a “Unicorns!” tag too? I know the publisher was credited, but I love that tag.

    @GSS and @B’man: GSS!

    @ARY: I think it needs an Anne McCaffrey quote.

    @NomadUK: I’ll drink to that.
