I see the Garbage Pail Kids cleaned up nicely (so to speak) as they got older.

The blurb doesn’t sound very sci-fi/fantasy to me. More in the…..not meant to be read in public and sold in establishments catering to an adult audience who enjoy sub-categories of a certain type of literature and eventually wind up helping police with their inquires for a rather extended length of time.

Sesame Street’s gone to the dogs since Big Bird died.

The cover illustration is clever, because it makes me want to read the book just to find out the answers to such questions as:
– Why the prominent banana peel?
– Who is in the garbage can on the left?
– Are those supposed to be baseball caps, or some other sort of mushroom-shaped hats?
– Why would two sentient beings climb into garbage cans?
– Will Roddy the Robot fulfill my wishes and mash both of the two punchable faces on the right?
To confirm, in 1982 I also would have fought both of those kids on the cover just because they look like they need a beating.

The young “butch” girl on the cover is just angry and frustrated that SCOTUS will be taking away her rights pretty soon.

The cover promises a trilogy that turned out to have only two books.Oopsie.
@Bellatrix, @A.R. Yngve: One of the running gags of the series is that like the Bear Who Wasn’t, Chicken Boo and Mechazawa, almost everyone fails to notice that Roderick isn’t human. The bully risking the integrity of his knuckles is probably with the majority.

I like that he is sporting a pair of Nike Cortez.
At first glance, I thought this was another terrible Borribles cover.

If there’s rust in your lust your doing it wrong.

It’s far from a brilliant cover, but it’s still pretty appropriate to Sladek’s novel, even if it is a bit poorly executed and laden down with shoddy ’80s camp.

I just realized this is a portrait of Lee Marvin as a child, practicing for what will someday be his legendary performance fighting a robot as Battling Maxo in the Twilight Zone episode “Steel.”

The other kid is just waiting for Butch’s pain. And the critter in the other trash can probably is too.
@Ryan: I agree with all of your questions, and add:
– How the heck does the robot have lusty adventures? Especially if he’s at the same “age” as those kids? (Is it one of those books @fred mentioned?)
– Who’s taking such bad care of the bot that there’s rust?
Although the being on the left has glowing eyes, so it might be something non-sentient.
In 1982 I would have been arrested for beating up those kids, but at their age I’d have gone in for punching them too. And I would have laughed REALLY loudly at Butch’s reaction to punching a robot. If Butch isn’t riding what we called “the short bus” to the special school, perhaps he should be.
Although, TBF, the kids on that bus had more sense than to punch metal. I would invite them to have their self-esteem raised by watching this, realizing that while they might have learning difficulties or developmental delays, they aren’t complete idiots.
@Bruce: I’m currently trying to find someone who will lend me their Hulu login to watch new “Animaniacs” episodes.

Wot, no new cover today? I blame (Trump|Johnson) (delete as/if appropriate)

I agree with @THX #3…even Oscar the Grouch is cowering in fear in the trash can on the left.
