JuanPaul Comments: I would say the artist caught the essence of emotionless enigma.

Published 1968

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Generic Bletchley Park bodyguard of lies comment.

  2. THX 1139 Says:

Is the sequel called Wet? Wehet, maybe?

  3. MakkaPakka Says:

@THX, it must be the sequel to “Dumar and Dumarer”.

  4. Bibliomancer Says:

    Ahhhh, smell the Derai-air.

  5. Francis Boyle Says:

101 uses for coffee stains #87.

Semi-naked female? Can’t say that I noticed that.

  6. Bruce A Munro Says:

Isn’t an emotionless enigma like a choleric riddle or a manic-depressive puzzle?

Lightly dressed woman posing with a sword, Moon photographed through a zoom lens, grainy shmeer background: three GSS tastes that taste (great?) together!

  7. THX 1139 Says:

Maybe she’s about to make her dinner, which she will prepare with Crisp and Derai.

  8. B. Chiclitz Says:

Derai say the wordplay is brilliant? On a more physical level, there is something very strange going on with her left shoulder.

  9. Tracy Says:

This one got NOTHIN’ on this one.

There’s a lot that’s awful about it, but worst is the man’s golden peep-toe boots.

  10. Tat Wood Says:

Ted Tubb bashed out thirty three or so of these books and Ace just lapped ’em up. What’s odd about this one is that it’s an Ace Double with a reprint of the first Dumarest story http://absoluteknave.squarespace.com/blog/2020/4/18/the-winds-of-gath-1967-ec-tubb after various other Ace books had subsequent episodes as half of the double-bill.

As Tracy points out, this one got off lightly.

  11. GSS ex-noob Says:

@BC: Her entire upper left arm is just wrong. Must be all that sword-holding.

@Tracy: that one ain’t emotionless! But GSS to it! Would have gotten a much higher rating than this, with weird muscles and feet too small to hold him up.

@Tat: and he never managed to end the Saga.

  12. Tat Wood Says:

@GSSxN: That’s death for ya. Still, if Earl D had got to Earth it might have been as bad a mess as ‘Battlestar Galactica’.

    Either version.

  13. A. R. Yngve Says:

In case you can’t find eternal bliss on the planet of emotionless enigma, try the planet of highly emotional clarity.
