Good Show Sir Comments: He conjured up an exotic dancer. But she wasn’t what he had in mind.

Published 1982

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Feels so good!Good Show Sir! (Average: 4.23 out of 10)

REVEALED: the untold story of how Girls Aloud were formed.

  2. JuanPaul Says:

Well, it’s a much more faithful depiction of the main character than this one:

No! You can’t have my 5000 page book on ‘How to properly enter a room while wearing a cape and pirate boots (revised edition).

  4. Bibliomancer Says:

♬ These boots are made for stalking
And that’s just what they’ll do
One of these days these boots will
God Stalk all over you ♬

  5. fred Says:

He was stupid challenging her to a game of Twister.

  6. Tor Mented Says:

Wasn’t this a Fleetwood Mac album cover?

  7. Bruce A Munro Says:

You can dance, you can jive
Having the time of your life, ooh
See that girl, watch that scene
    Dig in the Dancing Queen

    @Juan Paul: there’s a real “Oh God, I’m on a Baen cover, aren’t I?” expression.

  8. fred Says:

    Artist is Michael Mariano.

  9. Tor Mented Says:

Tell Mariano that Frank Frazetta called. He wants his columns back.

  10. THX 1139 Says:

There are some things you can’t cover up
    With lipstick and powder
Thought I heard you mention my name
    Can’t you talk any louder?

    Don’t come any closer
    Don’t come any nearer
    My vision of you
    Can’t come any clearer
Oh I just want to hear gods talk

  11. THX 1139 Says:

    @Tor Mented #6: Can’t be, there’s no penguin.

  12. fred Says:

He can take his columns, but the cows stay put.

  13. GSS ex-noob Says:

@THX: maybe it’s a Stevie Nicks solo album, thus no penguin? Or the penguin is in the Satan costume?

GSS is my most-often spot for “sentences I’ve never typed before”.

  14. Francis Boyle Says:

God Stalk: the long awaited sequel to Godspell. Darker and edgier yet somehow with music by Stevie Nicks.

  15. B. Chiclitz Says:

    When Gods talk, Demons listen.

  16. Tracy Says:

I actually had this book back in the day. It wasn’t very good. No dancing as depicted on the cover and the main character was more of a tactless amazon than the graceful gal that’s depicted. The only part I can remember about the plot is that at one point the amazon is pissed she has to ride in her noble family’s fancy coach to the capitol.

  17. Bruce A Munro Says:

@Tracy: not what I recall. Now I’ll have to track down a copy…

  18. Bruce A Munro Says:

@Tracy: the nearest library copy is 10 miles off, but this summary doesn’t make it sound as if she’s a noblewoman or has a coach to complain about…

God stalk. In the first book of the Kencyrath, Jame, a young woman missing her memories, struggles out of the haunted wastes into Tai-tastigon, the old, corrupt, rich and god-infested city between the mountains and the lost lands of the Kencyrath. Jame’s struggle to regain her strength, her memories, and the resources to travel to join her people, the Kencyrath, drag her into several relationships, earning affection, respect, bitter hatred and, as always, haunting memories of friends and enemies dead in her wake.

  19. A. R. Yngve Says:

“I call this dance ‘Stalked by Gods’. Watch me soar!”

  20. JuanPaul Says:

I’ll weigh in on the quality of the book:

It was good, if a little meandering. Cool world building. The climax wasn’t all that pronounced. I do intend to read the next book in the series.
