fred@3: I wonder if Siren mentioned at the end of that blog post can be found in the wild. The cover is gorgeous but nobody seems to know who the artist is. (The book is described by one Goodreads reviewer as unreadable,)
(Red Dude looks like a neckbeard with glasses in the smaller version. In the largest we can see it looks more like some sort of hood with outsized eyeholes, and he’s sprouted Count Chocula fangs. Looks like he needs a shave, and I can’t quite tell if he now has a pointy little mustache or not.)
“Whoa! This was underwhelming. Where’s all the depravity and debasement and such?”
“This is the Reformed Satanic Underworld. Join us in making this Quilt of Hell. Then we’re going to cook devil’s food – everyone agreed that’s funny – and watch Oprah.”
Oh, man, I wish this had been available when I was in the “re-enacting bad covers” group at a con a few years back. One of the girls was wearing clothes almost the color of the woman-figure, and it would have been easy to throw a blanket over one of the guys.
Damsel’s toes prove that once again, feet are hard to draw.
@Bruce: Yes to mustache, and it looks to me like he’s wearing Oakleys that are too small for his head, so they’re practically implanted.
Not for the first time, one can mix and match the adjectives and nouns in the blurb with no loss of meaning at all:
“A tortured corpse led him into a debased world of beautiful flesh and satanic desire.”

Another humdrum day in the life of Anton LaVey.
Reprinted by Playboy Press in 1980 with the tagline ‘an emotionally wrenching story of incredible psychosexual dependency’.

Dammit, I can’t decide whether to make a Garth Marenghi or an Ali G reference.

@Francis: split the difference and talk about massive stains.

It’s a metaphor for menstrual pains! No?

There’s an arrow pointing to one of the “dark places”, but I don’t see anything. She either shaved or is a natural blonde.

@JJYoyo: Good observation. Either a dart board or the punch card operations of the Blurb-O-Matic 73 that all the publishers could buy time on.
