You might remember this from here.

I sense he’s a plumber and this is actually 70s porn.

  2. A. R. Yngve Says:

“Chris? We need a book cover – tomorrow. You have anything lying around?”

“At such short notice? Damn! Well… I have this rejected poster for the film OUTER SPACE HUNKS AND HUSSIES… if you can use it.”

    “Ace! We’ll take it.”

  3. Bibliomancer Says:

    Dumb and Dumarest

  4. Max Bathroom Says:

Perhaps rather than a power drill that’s some sort of overlarge SF sex toy the muscleman is flaunting?

  5. Ryan Says:

Except for the stylish hat / shoes combo, this is an entirely appropriate cover for the contents of this book.

If the wings on those shoes are metallic, it would take, what, twenty minutes before he lacerated his shins?

Doctoral thesis. ‘The Beetle, Her Breasts, His Wardrobe’. Learning to decipher the hidden Christian subtext in book cover art.

  7. Francis Boyle Says:

And here’s me thinking that in the future all “giant power drill” would be cordless. Still he looks like a guy who doesn’t mind plugging his tool in.

  8. Bruce A Munro Says:

Man, these strip club shows have the silliest gimmicks.

    @Ryan: do tell.

  9. JuanPaul Says:

She looks like she is trying to wish herself off this cover.

  10. Tor Mented Says:

He swore that the vaccine shot wouldn’t hurt, but look how she’s holding her arm.

  11. Bruce A Munro Says:

@Tor Mented: what, Cover Babe Pose #17B, “embracing my own mammaries, damn I’m freezing variant?”

  12. GSS ex-noob Says:

They both blend into the rocks and sand so much that I looked elsewhere on the cover to make my eyes less hurty and thought “What does the lobster have to do with this?”

Also I request the “booties” tag.

  13. B. Chiclitz Says:

I think I’ve discovered just what makes today’s cover so different, so appealing.

  14. SI Says:

Wow its been a while since I just laughed… this is truely glorious!

I must have this and get myself onto public transport! The world must see!

  15. Tracy Says:

Chiclitz I thought I was the only one who made that connection!!

  16. GSS ex-noob Says:

@BC, Tracy: I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that collage was an inspiration for this cover. Anything that iconic would have been known to professional artists. At least subconsciously, that had to be involved.

  17. Tat Wood Says:

RIP Chris Achilleos – may he K-Klakk!! in perpetuity.

  18. THX 1139 Says:

@Tat: Yes, he did a lot of great Doctor Who Target paperback covers too. RIP.

  19. Emster Says:

@A. R. Yngve immediately captured what I was thinking.

I’m getting an 80’s Asimov mag cover vibe, where it may or may not have anything to do with the stories, but it’s definitely fantasy/artsy hot mess that the kids’ll go for.
