Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Well, Rocky did have a robot.

  2. Max Bathroom Says:

    I prefer “Oi, Robot!”

    I wonder if that little girl is …
    AAAADRIANNNNN!

  4. B. Chiclitz Says:

    Speaking of robots in Philly, this reminds me of that Canadian robot that hitchhiked halfway around the world only to end up in Philly and meet its end “destroyed by vandals.” I say they were just high-minded citizens looking to put that smug Great White North in its place. “Yo, Robot, hitchhike your way out of this!”

  5. Bruce A Munro Says:

    God damn lazy kids, can’t even be bothered to walk when they have robots to carry them.

    @Max bathroom: that robot had a long career on the cover of F&SF

    So you can only provide two links before your comment gets kicked over to moderation? Suppose it’s some kind of anti-spamming precaution.

  7. NomadUK Says:

    They call me Mister Robot!

  8. fred Says:

    Gloves is this weeks theme?

  9. Raoul Says:

    I just noticed that this is taking place thru the car front windshield.
    Before Asimov runs them both over.

  10. Bibliomancer Says:

    @B. Chiclitz

    I only had to start googling “robot h…” before I got a link to the story!

  11. Bruce A Munro Says:

    @Raoul: “Nobody must know I wrote this treacly little story. No witnesses.”

  12. GSS ex-noob Says:

    As art qua art, it’s really pretty good. Although twee little girl is less detailed than the bot and car, so perhaps we know what José was more interested in.

    @BC: Philly will destroy anything for any (or no) reason. Remember, they’re the ones who threw snowballs at and booed Santa Claus. They regularly throw batteries at their own giant hulking football players. A little robot had no chance.

    @Raoul, @Bruce: GSS on the double-team LOLs!

  13. Emster Says:

    Adrian was annoyed when Mum made her take the robot to school instead of riding her bike with her friends, but then one morning, that car came outta nowhere…

    And I just hadta google E.D.H.A.S.A. Disappointed to find it wasn’t as nifty as I’d hoped: Spanish publisher E[ditoria y] D[istribuidora] H[ispano] A[mericana] S. A. was founded in December 1946 and is located in Barcelona, Spain.

    @Max: I also like Oi, Robot, because it has unearthed things that are not commonplace/about to become extinct in the near future (insert spooky Outer Limits music here).

  14. B. Chiclitz Says:

    @GSSxn—to be fair to the historical record, that Santa showed up drunk to an Eagles game.

  15. Max Bathroom Says:

    Insults of the future:
    “Yo mama is a robot…”

  16. Bibliomancer Says:

    @B. Chiclitz

    As I recall, that Santa was also wearing a Cowboys jersey.

  17. Tracy Says:

    Aw, I like this cover. It’s old fashioned, of its time, and very sweet. Except, the part where the robot’s legs meet its torso is wonky, like it’s done in Egyptian style where torsos are straight but heads and legs in profile.

  18. A. R. Yngve Says:

    The First Law: A robot must Keep it Real.
    The Second Law: A robot must Fight the Power.
    The Third Law: A robot must get up, get down and get funky.
