Oh shit. We're trapped in an Ellison book!

Good Show Sir comments: Phantasia Press receptionist: “There’s a lawyer on the phone. Says he’s from Disney.”

Thanks to Ryan for sending this in!

Published 1982

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Aren’t we all?

    (I’m just not convinced we’ve bagged it with this one.)

  2. Steve S Says:

    White suit, shirt and diagonal striped tie by Prada, I guess.

  3. Tor Mented Says:

    There’s one mime who is never going to do the “Invisible Box” routine.
    Maybe “Walking Against Wind” is the best he can muster.

  4. Emster Says:

    @GSS – uh, GSS! I am also curious how they got away with/how much they had to pay for including a likeness of The Mouse on the cover.

    Brought to you by the Bidet Promotion Board.

  6. The Blue Are Coming Says:

    The fever dream was pretty lame until Bacchus showed up.

  7. NomadUK Says:

    Disney and Rod Serling, it seems.

    Fix, six, who’s counting?

  8. Tor Mented Says:

    The Mouse indicates that the Harlan Ellison literary estate has been purchased by Disney Corp. Chris Pratt, Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Olsen will soon be appearing in a lighthearted musical version of “I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream … For Ice Cream!”

  9. Bruce A Munro Says:

    The demonic hand sprinkling unhappy characters like chicken feed is less impressive when you see what’s attached to it: https://d1f7geppf3ca7.cloudfront.net/origin/559183/1534434146983_dsc08780.jpg

  10. Tat Wood Says:

    @NomadUK: Pirandello’s lawyer, maybe?

  11. Hammy Says:

    The knight-in-shining -armo(u)r hanging off the demonic hand’s index fingernail is a nice touch.

    And we know it’s a demonic hand because it has five fingers *and* a thumb….

    This is what happens to all the toys that get thrown away.

  13. Bruce A Munro Says:

    So is the back cover demon supposed to be a self-portrait? (The fedora seems on-brand.)

  14. B. Chiclitz Says:

    Legs akimbo!

    @Tor M (8)—GSS!

  15. GSS ex-noob Says:

    Dunno about the credit, because this is the SFBC cover. And it is even MORE orange than depicted. Like, you could be safe in traffic or hunting season wearing this.

    IIRC, this is an anthology and Harlan’s er, disagreement, with the House of Mouse is mentioned. Thus the taking of the Mickey.

    @Tor: Leave out Pratt and I’d watch it in an altered state.

  16. Emster Says:

    @Tor and GSS x-n – make that Chris(topher) Walken, Paul Rudd and Elizabeth Banks, and I’m in.

    @GSS – I forgot about the tiff with House of Mouse, which makes it that much more delightful.

    @Bruce – thought the same
