Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Feels so good!Good Show Sir! (Average: 5.10 out of 10)

That’s the gas, Elroy! Hit the brake…the braaake!

  2. Emster Says:

The casting team fondly remembers that plucky little rat who auditioned for the part of Chewbacca.

  3. fred Says:

    Noses are fun to draw.

  4. NomadUK Says:

Tom Swift and his Nuclear Tesla 3700, just before they hit the barrier.

  5. Bruce A Munro Says:

Two guys, a mummy, and a lemur walk into a spaceport bar…

(I can’t really badmouth Robin Jacques, whom I remember fondly from the Ruth Manning-Sanders series of children’s books.)

  6. Tracy Says:

I’d be very interested to know what role the little Skrakk character plays in the story.

(Skrakk is the squirrel-like creature in the Ice Age animated movies who is always chasing after a big tasty nut.)

  7. Bruce A Munro Says:

@Tracy: Scrat. And it’s not like it’s his first trip to space: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zgSNlmkJCpg

  8. Ryan Says:

Tom Swift was astonished to discover the existence of an even worse travel guide than Apple Maps: The space marmoset.

  9. Tat Wood Says:

The Meerkat’s offer of help with car insurance came with strings.

  10. GSS ex-noob Says:

Looks more like a weasel. Ain’t nobody in that ship happy at what they see ahead.

It’s not so much the uncharted stars that are dangerous, it’s the uncharted planets you crash on.

@fred: Everyone does have quite the schnoz. Especially the mummy and the weasel thing. Those are pretty snouty anyway, but this one’s even more so. Cartoonishly so, like Scrat.

@Bruce: I hadn’t seen that one, so thanks! Maybe this critter is a descendant of Scrat and remembers that ancestral tale.

  11. A. R. Yngve Says:

Is the other half of the artwork on the back cover?

(Artists hate it when they work for days on an image, and then the publisher cuts out a large part of it…)

  12. GSS ex-noob Says:

@ARY: Like maybe the full artwork showed what it is they’re looking at in alarm?

    (checks ISFDB)

It is! But it’s just stone arches and I guess whatever they’re scared of is Sir Not Appearing On This Cover.

    @Ryan (#8):

Before I saw the comments, I was wondering who it was that stole Tom Swift Jr’s Triphibian Atomicar (https://www.goodshowsir.co.uk/?p=14176) and went joyriding with his friends Bill, Rat and Mummy.

You summed up the cover better than I ever could. GSS.
