This robot really knows were to rip clothes. We look excellent.Click for full image

So when people escape from prison what usually happens to them? That’s right, their clothes rip. So the guy will be showing his well shaved muscle bound chest where as the women will show basically everything. We’ll have that, but with Mechs too! Because what cover isn’t improved with the addition of Mechs?

Thanks to Christopher!

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Feels so good!Good Show Sir! (Average: 7.45 out of 10)

  1. James Lovegrove Says:

“The critics had really taken a disliking to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bonnie Tyler’s duet on a cover version of ‘My Endless Love’.”

  2. Si Says:

    Steve Perry, from Journey?

I like the thoughtful look the guy has on his face. It’s kinda like she is saying, ‘Look, you either have me or the huge killer robot behind us. Are you so afraid of a little commitment?’

  3. Agrajag Says:

That Mech doesn’t have opposing thumbs – how is it going to catch them?

  4. DeadRobot Says:

    They’re escaping! The 80s!!

  5. SophaLoaf Says:

@DeadRobot Good call! NO one escaped…until now. Oh wait! The 80s came back again. When will we EVER escape?

  6. James Lovegrove Says:

    I never did.

  7. Si Says:

It’s ok James. Curly Perms and mullets are timeless.

  8. Simon Says:

From the ripples I’d hazard a guess that they’re not running away ever so quickly. Perhaps she doesn’t want to muss up her artfully ‘just got up and been chased by a killer robot’ 80s hair style.

  9. Adam Roberts Says:

My favourite bit: the giant lawn sprinkler in the background.

  10. CSA Says:

“The Omega cage, it was the highest security prison. Well, actually not as high security as the Alpha ,Beta ,Gamma ,Delta ,Epsilon ,Zeta ,Eta ,Theta ,Iota ,Kappa ,Lambda ,Mu ,Nu ,Xi ,Omicron ,Pi ,Rho ,Sigma ,Tau ,Upsilon ,Phi ,Chi or Psi cages, but it was still a fairly decent prison.”

  11. Nix Says:

Your claim that this is not a Baen book is not borne out by the appalling cover art. I suppose Baen was consciously trying to emulate the ‘cover art of yore’…

  12. Sleestak Says:

I have that book. Good read, ridiculous cover.

  13. anon Says:

The daring escape of Cassiopeia Omega and Cage Steele.

  14. David Cowie Says:

Teal and orange. So, so, teal and orange.

  15. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

‘Honey…are you SURE this is the way to the concert?’

‘I dunno, I’ll ask. Hey, buddy? Is this the way to the stadium for the Bon Jovi concert?’

‘Don’t ask me, man. I been followin’ you!’

  16. A.R.Yngve Says:

My God, Lovegrove, could you imagine Arnold and Bonnie doing a duet?

“Eye-lendz in deh stream, dat iz wot we aar
No one in betwiin, hau cun we be wroong
Seeil uh-way wid me to anudder wurld
Und we relie on each odder, ah-haah
From one luvver to anuddher, ah ah…”

(It was hard typing while laughing out loud!)

  17. Tom Noir Says:

Not pictured: the enormous amounts of hairspray it must have taken to get her hair like that. Perhaps the stuff figured into their daring escape plan?

  18. fred Says:

So, is the alarm a wailing siren or an AAAOOOOGAH AAAOOOOGAH AAAOOOOGAH.

  19. NomadUK Says:

ARYngve@16: Your transcription is perfection. I can hear him now; it works best if it’s Conan and Valeria.

  20. B. Chiclitz Says:

“Really? At a moment like this you have to show me how you’ve mastered the jaunty hip pose?”

  21. GSS ex-noob Says:

I find I don’t have much to add, as the very first comment lo these 11(!) years ago, and @ARY’s reply 2 years later summed it all up, save for @BC swooping in with the bon mot.

There is something desperately wrong with the damsel’s skeletal structure. Either that or she’s Arnie’s beloved blow up doll and is deflating unevenly.

  22. THX 1139 Says:

“Come back! I left the keys on the outside, now I’m locked in!”

  23. Bruce A Munro Says:

It’s a grimdark superprison guarded by battle suits which can only shoot, but at least it’s got a good hairstylist.

  24. Tat Wood Says:

It occurs to me that a twenty tonne mechanical suit might not be ideal for chasing people across a swamp. Given the proximity of that swmap to the prison, it ought perhaps to have occurred to someone else first.

    Talking of technical difficulties…
