Radiano’s Art Direction
Editor: Okay, the title is Sleepwalker’s World…
Artist: And what you want? An alien in pajamas who walks on a starship in construction? Please!
Editor: Well, no. See, this is a story about a superman-like astronaut in a world where every night everybody but a few elect acts like zombies, and he must stop some ancient conspirator ruled by a giant bug with a baby face with the help of the sister…
Artist: Whoa whoa whoa, too much information! Listen, I’ll put a naked girl on the cover, and maybe something else about the story. Any idea?
Editor: Well, the guy is helped by a super-intelligent lycaon…
Artist: What the hell is a lycaon?
Editor: It’s an african wild dog with Mickey Mouse ears.
Artist:
Editor:
Artist: Uhm, lycaon… lycon… lyon… That’s it! I’ll put a lion head in the corner, Trust me, it will be FABULOUS!!!

They really had no need to put the lion on this one. At all. I bet it still sold though!

  2. futurescientist Says:

I think we need a censored version of the censored version, since this is more disturbing than the uncensored version.

Kinda ironically dig the typeface up on top, though.

  3. SI Says:

I always knew Aslan was up to no good.

FurtureScientist> I agree the font on top is very good.

  4. A.R.Yngve Says:

“So how did those heads end up on her breasts?”
    “Nanotechnology.”
    “Ah, modern Hard SF.”

  5. andyl Says:

Why is the woman wearing a wig made from the lion’s mane? Although I suppose she was considerate enough not to chop any off to make a merkin.

  6. David H Says:

Looks cold on that planet–she is all blue and look at those goosebumps!

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Malfunction

  9. B. Chiclitz Says:

So, the lion is sleepwalking, and dreaming of a whole new mane.

  10. Tor Mented Says:

“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe Malfunction.”
Can’t let that pass without a bravo.

  11. GSS ex-noob Says:

There’s that uber-70’s SF font again. Still don’t know what it’s called.

And agree with (2) from so long ago — the censored version is much scarier than the original.

  12. Ryan Says:

What did Ian Rush ever do to deserve this?

  14. Tat Wood Says:

The lack of CS Lewis as parental-guidance covering is more than made up for by the multiple Jim Bowens – “Let’s see what ya coulda won’.

Similarly the archetypal Scouser – ‘Eh! Eh! Calm down, caaaaalm down’

It’s been a while snce we saw Space Sheep.

  15. B. Chiclitz Says:

    Il Gordoni strikes again, again!

  16. GSS ex-noob Says:

Is she outstanding in a field?

I’d prefer to see Space Sheep on her torso, it’d go so well with the lion.

Not entirely sure we needed Ian there… her actual crotch seems to be incomplete and fading into the background.

I kept looking for what the asterisk was there for. No footnote available. Does the fine print of the missing footnote say “Cover is artist’s impression; may not relate to actual contents.”

Did they mistakenly swap the cover for John Crowley’s “Beasts” (which this would be more appropriate for), and does that Italian version mistakenly have a cover with a dude, a wild dog, and a giant bug? (and a naked chick, because Europe)

An extremely belated GSS to (8), who won the thread many years ago.

  17. Bruce A Munro Says:

    @GSS ex-noob: ditto on #8.

“The zombie chick and her creepy lion are right behind me, aren’t they?”

  18. GSS ex-noob Says:

@Bruce: That explains his expression. Even creepier than being a zombie is the fact she’s wearing two masks of an old English guy’s face as a bra.

    IAN! BEHIND YOU!!!

    @GSSx-n (#11):

You piqued my curiosity, so I tried to use this website – whatfontis.com – to see if it could figure out what that Omega SF* font/typeface is (I’m assuming that’s the one that everyone’s talking about).

Unfortunately, on the free search, it didn’t locate an identical font. It did suggest some other funky ones, extruded, etc.

  20. GSS ex-noob Says:

@Hammy: Good try. And an entire family of similar fonts is still a find.
