I can’t wait for the sequel THE SWORD SWORD — where the book cover depicts a sword made up of tiny swords, which themselves are made up of tinier swords and so on ad infinitum…
Given a choice, it’s a steel sword for me every time. Unless I’m on the receiving end, in which case paper (or jelly) will do nicely.I wonder how long before Adrienne writes about these variants.
I kind of like that border — Greek-key-ish with a rainbow. But I’d be afraid to wield that sword. What if my thumb goes into that big eye? Ewwwww! And then that would cause the hands to drop the little eyeballs and they’d bounce away. And then I’d be stuck with a blind sword and a slimy thumb.
Famed cover producer Bruce Dickenson came into the studio and said when he saw the first draft “The cover is looking great but I could have used a little more eyeballs”
“Poppies will make them sleep! It’s working! They’re stumbling!”
“Wait, sorry, you wanted a soporific? I was sure you said a hallucinogen… oh dear.”
“No I didn’t! And stop shedding feathers and banana peels all over my cauldron!”
When that sword goes back in its scabbard…and when you hitch that scabbard to your belt…MAKE SURE the eyeballs are pointed away from you. No good can come about as those eyes stare into your naughty bits…staring…judging…never speaking, though…
If Tag Wizard’s reading this, the cover is by Danny Flynn, (I’ve got a book of his paintings with this one in, I’m not just being an I-know-better-than-you commenter)
@Phil: Jelly is far less risky, paper cuts can really sting.

Where’s Bungle? Where’s Zippy? This is rubbish.

I wonder if it’ll drop its smaller eyeballs if you tickled it’s armpits.

That’s an amazingly creepy sword. Even if it is a bit like something from a camp Lovecraft story…

“In Russia you don’t go looking for magic sword, magic sword goes looking for you!”

OK, here come the totally unsurprising puns:
What an eye-catching cover. The artist sure has an eye for detail. There is so much to see in it, you’d wish you had three eyes…

A sight for sword eyes.

Finally, a book where they actually drew whew what the title says! I give it two thumbs up just for that.
Now, let’s talk about the author’s obsession with swords…

Somehow amazing and awful at the same time. A rare treat.

The eye must lose it’s contacts during intense fights.

Obligatory internet meme comment:
“A full on rainbow sword! What does it MEAN!?”

Can you only use the rainbow sword just after a sun shower?
March 28th, 2011 at 2:01 pm
“Now Zippy, that wasn’t very nice, was it?”
March 28th, 2011 at 3:22 pm
It’s not so much a rainbow sword, as an eye-holding sword wearing a rainbow poncho … unless it makes rainbows like the one in the background.
March 28th, 2011 at 4:40 pm
Be careful, you’ll put an eye out on that.

@A.R. I’d love to see the cover of that one, would the Sword be wielded by a centaur with centaur’s for hands?

I never saw a Rainbow Sword and I never hope to see one. But I can tell you anyhow I’d rather not be seen by one.

I like the way the rainbow soars in this cover.
