Matthew Comments: I remember the TV programme of this being pretty scary… Published 1976

Is this a textbook “negative reaction”?
bang!
The inclusion of psychic powers into Grange Hill would have been this epic!
Back, and to the left…
Nurofen.
Little known fact: kids in ugly jumpers get great TV reception.
I wonder if Wyndham has his full name on his gravestone. John Wyndham Parkes Lucas Beynon Harris.
I’ll defend this cover. It relates to the content, it’s artful without being overdone, and it’s creepy (which the story also is).
It wouldn’t be half as creepy in a “positive” version…
When I saw the thumbprint version I honestly thought this would be one of those books that does a whole take on the Anti-Christ/Messiah thing. Not an alien scout thing.
@A. R. Yngve: yes, but is the flavour authentic?
The Golden Shot was a great show. Until they started killing children on it, that is.
Bernie, the bolt!
This is pretty scary but I prefer the same series cover for The Outward Urge. This features an astronaut wielding a strange bullhorn!
That kid needs some serious teeth-whitener!
Ready! Aim! Fire!
I’m with A.R. Yngve here. All the Penguin Wyndhams were done by the same artist in a similar restrained, modernist style. They’re very good.
@Tag Wizard: Sweaterworld?
@Stuff, better than obsessing over weird pecs though, right?
Seems to me that we lack a bullseye tag, too. Sproing!
Chocky John Wyndham: “I’m not the person you’re looking for. You will chase the penguin in the orange bubble.“
