Saxy Stevenson’s Art Direction: It’s about an alien, a cute one, you know the kind of one you’d love to kiss, cuddle, stroke, bath etc. Bath… wait that’s a great idea, like with bubbles and maybe some caring hands around it and some big gremlin eyes. Perfect!

The giant-squid-style head sells it for me. I’d adopt one of these in an instant, as long as they don’t mind sharing with the red pandas.

Creature furry. Hands blue. Why do people put the adjective after the noun?
As a cover, I find nothing objectionable. Freas could no no wrong in my opinion – although occasionally his fine artwork would be used to adorn unrelated books.

“… and then, once you have a firm grip on your alien, give it a really good squeeze to get all of that lovely juice out. Add sugar to taste and voila!”

Kelly Freas did some nice work for MAD magazine in the 60’s. That is one of the cutest aliens I’ve ever seen as well.

Are there no manicurists in space?

I have a book of Frank Kelly Freas’ which isn’t officially MAD magazine, but is MAD-like. It’s famous paintings and what was really going on behind the scenes when you looked at their back sides. The paintings were (black-and-white) repros of real Old Master paintings, but Kelly Freas did marvelous pastiches of what they looked like behind.
I met him once. He was very gentleman-like.
And yes, I’m with those who rather like this cover.

So long as it doesn’t grow into a cat person, it’s great!

The scale is kind of confusing….Is that thing the size of the a cat, or is it the size of a galaxy?

This reminds me of some of the toys we had back in the 80’s. We had Popples, troll dolls, some strange critters from the Teddy Ruxpin universe. Whatever that thing was that Rainbow Brite kept as a pet.

You know, if Earth was invaded by cuddly little furry aliens, we’d all be toast.
“I can’t shoot it! It’s so cuuute… ARRGHH…”

Hate the title (the title I hate) but the critter is adorable. Kelly was a great artist and a nice man.
