Looks like I picked the right war to shave my arm pits! Click for full image

Tom Noir Comments: Frog people, monkey people, fish people and lizard people? It’s like it’s Tag Wizard’s birthday!

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! 1. THX 1138 Says:

I’m pretty sure most of them aren’t women, but I’m willing to be surprised.

  2. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

This is a grand concept. I mean, I like women, and I like war. Why not combine the two, I say.

@THX: I think you’ll find that everyone on the cover is a potentially child-bearing member of her species. Yes, everyone. That ‘banner’ you see? Rhonda’s a loving mother to her three little pennants, and is only fighting for the money.

  3. rev Says:

    Why was it edited?
What could possibly have happened with the fish people and the bubble head and the frog people and the lizard people and the giant square monkey and ET and the flag waving dyke during wartime that was unfit for the general public?
Did they all walk into a bar?

  4. L.B. Says:

First I had that Helen Reddy song running through my head, but then it switched to Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’. Now we just need RX’s species to be represented and this would be a great work.

  5. Bibliomancer Says:

The Cat People Army will kick their ass.

  6. Bibliomancer Says:

PETA’s tactics will get much more aggressive in the future.

  7. Tat Wood Says:

The one time they could have legitimately said ‘we’re referencing a famous painting so the bare boobs are perfectly fine’ they didn’t. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberty_Leading_the_People
Which is encouraging and all but leads to new member rev (hello) assuming she must be LBGT because she’s on a skiffy book cover fully clothed.

I suppose the Servalan haircut may have fooled some people, but… Servalan.

  8. fred Says:

If she is being shot at it might be a good idea for her to put an ammo clip into her weapon.

  9. Stevie T Says:

More Baenists! But no Baen logo in sight?

Does anyone else think the symbol on the banner is a little OTT?

  10. Jeff Vader Says:

@ Bibliomancer: French revolutions will apparently appeal to a much wider audience in the future.

  11. Rags Says:

I cant believe i am saying this, but this cover could use alot more Baen.

  12. A.R.Yngve Says:

Shouldn’t the title be A SINGLE WOMAN AT WAR? Why not show a whole phalanx of women?
The explanation is crass and simple.
Many male readers would feel intimidated by seeing a whole army of women. But a lone woman doesn’t scare them as much.

  13. Tat Wood Says:

You’ve propped this up against a stack of Jack Womack books, cool and slightly ironic, but what is that to the right of the book? An aubergine/ cabbage hybrid?

  14. Tom Noir Says:

I wish I could take credit for clever book placement, but this was at the used bookstore and I just prop books wherever there is a well-lit space. The thing on the right is a cover, but I haven’t the faintest what for.

  15. Anti-Sceptic Says:

Women at war? So does this mean that all the women of the world rebelled against each other, or does it mean that they rebelled against the men? I’m sure that most men would prefer them rebelling against each other…much more entertaining.

  16. Jeff Vader Says:

    @Tat Wood/ Tom Noir:
One can make out a tiny digit just at the egde which leads me to the conclusion it is in fact a bat-like wing of some sorts. Possibly belonging to a chiroptera-cabbage hybrid.

  17. Tat Wood Says:

    Hang on…

    Servalan…

    Dr Moreau-style beasts…

    Uh-oh http://swordznsorcery.livejournal.com/214515.html

  18. Tat Wood Says:

@Jeff Vader: Perhaps it’s a vampire Tiffany Lamp

  19. HappyBookwyrm Says:

@ Anti-Sceptic – Going by the variety of life forms on the cover it’s not a war among women or against men…It’s women at war with all other sentient species besides humans. Which is atrocious! I’m a woman and I would not fight in this war.

  20. A.R.Yngve Says:

    WOMEN AT WAR… Promise!

  21. Tom Noir Says:

Editor: “Everyone knows, women on covers don’t sell. Let’s throw some space monkeys on there!”

  22. A.R.Yngve Says:

The cover was effortlessly recycled from a rock album cover — they only had to remove a “G” from the original title WOMEN AT GWAR.

  23. Anti-Sceptic Says:

@HappyBookwyrm but why women only? Were the men all at home? I can see it now…

woman: “Honey, I’m home. You won’t believe the battle we had today with the deadly Zarkons!”

man: “So when are you going to start the battle with dinner?”
