Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! “OK, just pop the lizard and the cat in the cauldron and we can eat!”

  2. Bibliomancer Says:

    Merlin’s meth lab

  3. Francis Boyle Says:

Now I’m imagining that somewhere in the book there’s this tense scene:

Walter the White Wizard: Now… Say my name.

    Apprentice: (haltingly) Paracelsus.

Walter the White Wizard:: You’re goddamn right!

  4. B. Chiclitz Says:

“This has to be the worst class of graduate student wizards I’ve ever seen. The iguana is supposed to be on your head and the cat is supposed to be on your shoulder. Alligator boy has taken three incompletes in basic metamorphosing—you’re supposed to transmute into a bird, Roy, a bird! Only iguana girl is taking notes and have you ever tried reading her handwriting? It’s atrocious. If you don’t wise up—wise, wizard, get it?—you’re all losing your funding lines, taking the terminal master’s degree and teaching high school alchemy for the rest of your careers.”

  5. JuanPaul Says:

Of course it’s the cat that is breaking the fourth wall. Such attitude.

Also, it’s rare to see a Rowena cover that doesn’t feature a woman that is 90% naked. I can only guess that, under those robes, they are totally nude and Sir Mixalot-worthy.

  6. B. Chiclitz Says:

    “Censered”—nice tag, Tag.

  7. fred Says:

No one dared to push pease porridge beyond nine days until now.

  8. Anna T. Says:

I’m really curious as to what classic wizard man is brewing up in that cauldron, with the DRAMATIC HAND GESTURES he’s making.

  9. GSS ex-noob Says:

What does Crocodile Man think about iguana familiar, I wonder? Any family feeling?

Is the cat the familiar or the apprentice wizard?

Is the woman in the background the lowest-ranking one, neither having nor being an animal?

@JuanPaul: they’re definitely all starkers beneath their robes. We can only see the head of woman-behind-cauldron; she might be showing it all.

Cat may be thinking of getting a new agent after this cover.

@Anna T: perhaps he conjured up the terrible squiggly font, coalescing out of the smoke?

  10. Raoul Says:

I would have gone with a more rhymy “Alchemy & Academy”.

  11. Bruce A Munro Says:

Are those badly drawn children, or just a very large wizard?

  12. GSS ex-noob Says:

    @Bruce: Yes?

    I think it’s a very large wizard.
