Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Star Surgeon – cases surgin’.

  2. Francis Boyle Says:

The first rule of the hospital in the sky: make sure you know which end of the digestive tract you’re sticking your head into.

  3. fred Says:

James White book covers have a total absence of sexy women, which I find amazing from a publisher’s ‘how can we increase sales’ POV.

  4. Tat Wood Says:

Anti-Vaxers take heed – the staff at Sector General get out of having to wear masks because diseases don’t cross to alien species. So anyone on Earth in 2021 who refuses to take precautions is admitting to not being human.

Something architect David Vincent might have benefitted from knowing.

  5. Tracy Says:

    “Hieronymous Bollocks, Batman!”

  6. A. R. Yngve Says:

“Nurse! I need two metric tons of Preparation H, stat!”

  7. GSS ex-noob Says:

    Good book (series), terribad cover.

If you squint, some of those blobs kinda look like some of the alien characters, but I don’t recall any of them being described as colon and sphincter-ish.

@fred: There’s literally only one human woman in this book, and she’s Not That Sort. You can see her on one of the German covers, and that is indeed how she looks/dresses.

    @Tracy: GSS!

  8. Bruce A Munro Says:

Star Surgeon trying to figure out if this a job for a podiatrist or a gastroenterologist.

A couple of those critters actually resemble aliens in White’s stories, albeit forced through some sort of surrealist filter, perhaps made from Salvador Dali’s mustache.

  9. B. Chiclitz Says:

A MAGA view of what the Covid vaccine turns you into. The figure in white is of course Dr. Fauci.

  10. GSS ex-noob Says:

@Bruce: “surrealist filter made from Dali’s mustache” made me quite literally LOL. Luckily I’d swallowed first. (I’ve learned not to eat or drink reading GSS)

  11. Bruce A Munro Says:

@GSS ex-noob: thanks! I’ll be here all night. When you’re done laughing, try the veal! (it’s in the background of the Richard Blade cover.)

For Canada Day, usurping The Guess Who’s “Star Baby”:

Well, it’s a confounding cover, where on earth did Charles find this thing
GSS gang has a lot to say
About galactic critter bums, and poking fun at our pandemic calamity
Gotta flyin’ flea up high, owl-origami-space-anemone?
Big green creature with the doc that’s got a lotta lips and a$$holes – oh!

    Star Surgeon
Treating unknown beings without wearing any PPE
    Star Surgeon
Tiny little doctor – keep yer fingers outta that walkin’ tree…

  13. GSS ex-noob Says:

@Emster: Continuing with our tribute to the Great White North…

    Star Surgeon dude-man,
    Get away from flea!
    Star Surgeon dude-man,
    Let that colon be!

  14. Emster Says:

Raisin’ a long neck Molson Canadian in solute and waving at ya with the bbq tongs, eh?

  15. GSS ex-noob Says:

    These eyes
    Are cryin’
These eyes have seen a lot of weird, but they’re never gonna see anything so gross, oh ew…
