Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Never take Faux-nan to the zoo. You should see what he did with the monkeys

    LORD OF BLOOD
The true story of how I made a fortune from a nationwide chain of blood banks

  6. Tor Mented Says:

The way to the stars? They’re, like, straight up, dude.

  7. Tor Mented Says:

(I do have to raise an objection to the idea that Jim Steranko could do a bad cover.)

  8. Bob Says:

When calling dibs was taken seriously.

  9. NomadUK Says:

One species of cat was clearly not enough for Netflix.

Coming soon: Lion King: More Murder, Mayhem, and Madness.

  10. Bibliomancer Says:

    LORD OF BLOOOO!

  11. B. Chiclitz Says:

“Dammit, lion, just take the breath mint already!”

  12. B. Chiclitz Says:

@Tor M—My adolescence was enriched by Steranko’s Marvel work in the 60s. Tremendous comics artist. What makes this cover GSS worthy, IMHO, isn’t the execution but the concept, and the nonsensical blurb.

  13. Francis Boyle Says:

I can’t decide whether a star barbarian should be a starbarian or barstarian.

  14. GSS ex-noob Says:

I’m no lion-fighting expert, but wouldn’t it be smarter to stand farther away and use the sword rather than get in range of all those teeth and claws? Maybe in conjunction with the shield?

    @THX: GSS.

@fred: The only two books in the series. Guess not enough people cared about Jamnar, even with a Steranko cover.

Possibly they were put off by the blurbs and back covers, which appear to have been badly machine-translated from some other language. Maybe twice.

@Tor: One of the stars is directly above the lion, even! Apparently it’s surfing, right there in the curl.

  15. Bruce A Munro Says:

    EXTREME pet-grooming.

  16. Mel M Says:

Alien Las Vegas did not understand that you couldn’t combine the Elvis Tribute show with the Sigfried and Roy Homage (with a pinch of Cirque du Soleil by the way his spine is twisted)..

  17. Tat Wood Says:

That blurb, plus a lion, makes me wonder if Sir Arthur’s lawyers might have been interested: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lion_of_Comarre_and_Against_the_Fall_of_Night

  18. Tor Mented Says:

@GSSxn: Touche! I hadn’t even noticed that until you mentioned it.

  19. GSS ex-noob Says:

@Tor: It’s OK, he hadn’t noticed it either, and it’s right there. Mind you, I suppose he was distracted by the lion.

@Mel M: Always the problem when the barbarians try to recreate the glories of the past.

I am owned by a kitty — your basic alley cat gone fat, lazy, and old indoors — and when he’s snarling and upset, if I was to put my arm there, I’d get teeth punctures that drew blood.

Jamnar’s going to draw back a stump. Maybe that’s why this was the second and final book.
