Emster Comments: Dear GSS regulars, please provide clever quips for this cover art. I expect your comic offerings will make up for the 3 hours of my life I’m never getting back (typical hazard for sf fans who will try any author once).

GSS Admin Comments: It says it’s comedy but apparently it isn’t funny. So we’ll allow it.

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. 1. Max Bathroom Says:

In the future, nobody will find adult babies at all odd, and Star Fleet will provide away teams with special equipment to keep them happy.

  2. fred Says:

    This cover suckles.

  3. A. R. Yngve Says:

Just when you thought the American cult of guns couldn’t sink any lower, an arms manufacturer releases the “Mother-of-All-Guns: The gun that shoots baby formula straight at your baby!”

  4. Tor Mented Says:

    Is this a burp gun?

  5. drlemaster Says:

@ A. R. Yngve On the bright side, the NRA is now taking the infant formula shortage very seriously.

  6. Tat Wood Says:

If ‘2001’ had been a Marvel film, ths would have been popping up halfway through the end credits.

  7. Francis Boyle Says:

“Fans of gun fetishism and lactation fetishism should be satisfied. Both of them.”

  8. B. Chiclitz Says:

Clearly this gunship is headed for the Milky Way to refuel.

    @fred @Tor M—GSS to both!!

  9. JuanPaul Says:

    The plot is formulaic.

  10. GSS-exnoob Says:

“should be” is doing all the work. “Should be — the author thought so — but aren’t”.

How big is this gun? Enough to fill the Ever Expanding Universe? Or is it like a t-shirt cannon, and one person can feed several babies, lined up in a row?

Are other liquids available? Because this makes me want some.

Not only is this ridiculous, the grip isn’t large enough for the weight of the bottle, milk, gauge, and pointless fin.

And it’s from an actual publisher.

    GSS to @fred ,@Tor and @BC!

  11. Leak Says:

Little did they know in 2012 how the end-time wars in the US were really going to be about baby formula…

  12. Bruce A Munro Says:

Not sure how much longer we can keep milking this gag.

(I can actually see this as a bottle warmer, sold online to nerd parents-to-be.)

  13. Tat Wood Says:

    ‘Dammit, I asked for a pacifier ray…”

  14. Tor Mented Says:

It’s a gun for people who are nursing a grudge.

  15. Emster Says:

Whether or not I thought the story – vague shades of ‘Juno’ teens vs aliens space soap aimed at YA SciFi readers – coulda used a few more months gestation and some strict motherly editing… is irrelevant. It’s all about the GSS cover art review.

I have just giggled my way through 14 exquisite zingers and puns. Totally worth it.

Also, I managed to trade this stinker in for credit at the local used book shop. (If the shop owner, also a SciFi fan, reads this and puts two and two together, I’m so busted…)

  16. Emster Says:

PS – that should have been 15 exquisite zingers and puns, including the GSS “cover hover pop up”. Apologies for overlooking our gracious host who brings us together to laugh about book covers from our favourite genre, and provides a treasure trove of classic/cheesy/downright tacky covers.
