Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! 1. Francis Boyle Says:

    Are you sure about Moth Boy, Yamamanama. Because given the quantity of boobage here I’m leaning towards a lepidopteran lesbian hypothesis, which coincidentally, is the name of my new band.

  2. Max Bathroom Says:

    Are you sure it isn’t a moth catfight taking place in that cover, Francis? The blades don’t look flirty, put it that way.

  3. fred Says:

    Do moth people call twins ‘twins’ or is it pupa ‘pupae’?

    The 2014 cover is a bland photoshopped romance adjacent that desperately needs Fabio.

  4. Yamamanama Says:

    Amazon’s cover art is awful in entirely different ways. Unless we’re talking about Joan Slonczewski’s The Children Star.

  5. Bruce A Munro Says:

    Is that a tornado, or a bunch of oversized silk scarves? (Silk produced by the caterpillar stage of the moth people?)

    @fred: we live in the era of the Photoshop Cover [1], which generally cover the range from “not bad design-wise, if you like that sort of thing” to “my brain hurts”

    @Yamamanama: a perfectly cromulent description.

    [1] Or whatever image-manipulating program has surpassed it. Old fogeys like myself can’t keep up.

  6. GSS ex-noob Says:

    I’m with @Francis — those are both women. Why moth people need breasts is another conundrum never to be solved.

    Perhaps their two tribes are fighting over the Moon Silk? Not to rule out them falling in love and the lesbian lepidopteran scenario happening after this.

    What any of this has to do with Biblical Jericho is beyond my ken (And my Barbie, who could pull off these outfits).

  7. Yamamanama Says:

    My favorite (?) Amazon covers belong to the Helliconia Trilogy by Brian Aldiss, which are all the same stock photo of a lake and some pine trees with a different color filter applied to each of them.

  8. Francis Boyle Says:

    @Max

    GSSxn has it right. Whatever you do don’t google “catfight porn”.

  9. Tracy Says:

    Both covers are embarassing, but this one is worse, for the Polly Pocket nature of the clothing. Do those getups of theirs snap on and snap off?

  10. GSS ex-noob Says:

    @Tracy: That might be the only way to get them on which doesn’t involve trying to wrestle the clothes around/over the wings.

    Or else the wings snap on?

  11. Emster Says:

    Groovy!
    Nice find, Yamz.
    I typically get suckered by colourful covers like this vintage beauty…
