If you think Madonna’s demanding of her onstage dancers, you should see what Lourdes will be having them do in another decade or two…

When the title font/color don’t get with the program, the cover is worse. It’s like Ace was going to recycle this cover for an entire run of Norton books.

@fred, it’s funny you say that – I swear I’ve seen her before on a different cover.

A flower in her right hand but what’s she holding in her left? Looks like a packet of Chesterfields to me.
Oh, you weren’t looking at her hands.

I’ve heard of women twisting men around their little fingers but in this case I’m not even sure the artist knows how to draw little fingers.

By Grabthar’s Hammer, ‘Zarsthor’s Bane’ is bleeding difficult to pronounce.

@Nomad UK
I’m thinking that Zrasthor is one of the lads in armour doing zero g synchro swimming and the other one might be his bane…

I can’t stop looking at the golf spikes the twirler on the right is wearing, and wondering if he is twirling at such a high rate of speed that his scabbard have begun to bend, and if he and his twirly buddy are reaching such speeds as to become translucent.

Ban hores starz.

So the guys are going in circles, but have transparent parts around Barb’s legs? (not feet obviously, this is GSS). Is it all down to magic, or does her Ting! flower merely project images and she wanted to catch this week’s episode of “Zero-G Interpretive Dance”?
GSS to Max and fred. fred’s comment makes me miss @Anon’s epic anagrams.

@fred: going forward, it shall be known as the Andre Norton font…
@Ryan: I guess the bendy scabbard makes sense? I’d like to know if the original sketch was bendy or if it just fit better on the cover.
@GSS x-n: Mr. Pound gets points for giving everyone appendages below the knee. A year ago I wouldn’t have noticed, and now I’m fascinated by rampant SF footlessness.

@Emster: If his sword’s equally bendy, then the scabbard makes more sense than a lot of this cover.
This was indeed her font for this Ace series. The cover of this one, new, is even pinker.
I haven’t read it, but it doesn’t look like the sort of thing usually seen on the Witch World. The price tag covers up the excited blurb saying “The Only Illustrated Witch World Novel!” in small caps.
Still, 3 people, 6 feet, that’s much more than most here can do.
But who or what is Zarsthor, other than Sir-Not-Appearing-In-This-Art?
Added: I was going to look this up on ISFDB, but that seems to have gone poof?!
May 11th, 2023 at 3:04 am
@GSS x-n: if Zarsthor is anything like Zardoz, there’s no room on the cover for a giant floating head with those two other floatie guys taking up all that space.
May 12th, 2023 at 12:34 am
@Emster: Oh, hey, maybe this is from Zarsthor’s POV. His Bane is when what he wants to watch is pre-empted for “Zero-G Interpretive Dance”.

Must not type “circle j***s”… must not type “circle j***s…”
D’oh!!

@ARY: It’s not like their hands are anywhere near, uhm, those areas… unless they both have golf cleat fetishes. Which, you know, whatever.
Or maybe Zarthor and/or Barb have that kink.
