Cat people seem to be greatly disapproving of that weird train… I know I would be too!

“Meow! This runaway train coming down the track blows!”
July 4th, 2012 at 12:10 pm
“That’s the last time I take train from Platform 9 and 3/4s…”

“Oh boy, oh boy, mountains AND Madness! This is going to be the best rail road scenic tour ride ever!”

I guess some people can rate books now? I still can’t. If you can, what browser are you using?

Tom – GAH it’s still broken. In the words of Lando, “They told me they fixed it!”
I’m on it now.
P.S. And in the words of me… I fixed it! Please try again!

Looks like you fixed it.
Despite how ridiculous the scene depicted is, the drawing is not disturbing to the eye.
But then the appalling 3D letters appear on top to make things right. This really pushes the GSS rate up.

Maybe there’s a catnip shipment on that train…

So are these the same Mountains of Madness that house Lovecraft’s pentagonal elder creatures? If so, I don’t rate the puma-people’s chances. Oh, wait, these are mountains AND madness. Carry on, then.
That dragon train is brilliant. The veins along its flanks are a little odd, though.

The train seems to be played by Uncle Deadly of Muppet fame:

“Great Dragon Railways wish to apologise for the cancellation of the 11:15 steam dragon train service to Mountain & Madness Temple Meads station. Instead, a replacement Catperson bus service will run from the car park.”

Ah hah! Yes! At last I can rate freely! I’m going to go out and rate everyone I meet!
I said RATE.

Despite the fact that neither Cat Person resembles Suggs this cover is definitely One Step Beyond.

And despite how ridiculous the scene is, this is a Baen book, so the actual story inside is probably even MORE ridiculous. 🙂

So the kid who wanted to design and render for the movies is the one who gets put in charge of designing the trains. Meanwhile there’s probably some other kid who’s making sure the mighty heroes of that planet’s movies are constantly battling giant demonic high speed rail monsters.

Cat people AND train dragons! Thomas the Tank Engine was never so rad!

Some of my friends had a railroad game (one of the Mayfair ones you played with crayons) that had this as the box art. If this is a book based on that game, it is the sci-fi/fantasy equivalent of the What To Expect When You Are Expecting movie.

That is the coolest looking dragon-train that I’ve ever seen….and the first 🙂
I have no clue as to how the cats are going to attempt to take over that scary looking train. Are their little swords sufficient? I guess I’ll just have to read and see…nah, I’ll wait for someone here to tell me….anyone?

[Brian Blessed voice-over] Welcome to… Dark Chuggington.

Ahhh… I would’ve killed to get an HO scale model of that train for my tabletop railroad when I was a kid.

Holy crap, the front of the weird train looks like Nigel Thornberry!

Anyone else think the S’s look like they’ve been added later?

Cats see on a different spectrum to humans. It could be a giant fish for all we know.

‘Thomas proudly chugged through the Mountains of Madness, eager to keep to the schedule. It was a splendid day, and the man-cat abominations kept to themselves, eating hardly anyone. “I’m a really useful engine!” thought Thomas.’

“I think that’s the one after 909.”
