Sorry there's a lack of space squids on this one.Click for full image

Simon W Comments: Low budget is an overstatement on this one. Four photos and a bit of fiddling with exposures. Looks like a 4th form art project done by someone studying science.

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! This should really be a science fiction double feature.

  2. Phil Says:

Also the basis of Francis Ford Coppola’s A-PUCKER-LIPS NOW.

I admire the hand-drawn price label. Look closely and you will see proof of inflation in the secondhand book trade: it was originally written as 30p, but the 0 has been turned into a 5. I blame Cameron.

  3. A.R.Yngve Says:

According to the blurb, the novel takes place in something called “the World”… oh, these fantasy writers! Always coming up with fancy-pants names!

Look, it’s He Who Must Not Be Named in the mist!

  5. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

Convince me that at least three of the people are not the same person.

@GSS Admin, re: the lack of space squid

Even if there had been space squid on this cover, there would have been at least two of them, and they would have been only partially sketched in and translucent, so maybe it’s for the best.

I feel a Prince song comin’ on, “This is what it sounds like, when books cry.”

  9. Tat Wood Says:

    Gamma Ray?

    Death Ray?

    No, Man Ray.

  10. Bibliomancer Says:

Rejected artwork for a failed perfume ad campaign?
Or a winning capstone project at Unknown Artist Institute!

I was really hoping Squids and Nudes Week would continue.

  11. Tag Wizard Says:

Twist! It’s a magic eye picture. Focus correctly and you will indeed be able to see the three translucent squids that are pulsating in the background.

The Paradox Men : The forgotten secret should go here but being forgotten and all you’ll just have to buy the book to satisfy your curiosity.

  13. B. Chiclitz Says:

What’s with the colon in the title?
    The Paradox Men: Charles Harness
What does that mean? Does it mean “Charles Harness equals the paradox men? Is it meant to be, er, a paradox?
I think those guys are from the Punctuation Police.

  14. B. Chiclitz Says:

@Tat Wood—Either Man Ray or the original cover for
The Great Gatsby, rejected b/c the artist forgot to include the tear.

  15. Jaouad Says:

I’m sure one of those men is a reflection of the photographer in the book cover. I only hope it isn’t both of them.

  16. The Book Design Blog Says:

Personally I really like this cover. I’d gladly pay 35p to own a copy.
