That is one manicure gone seriously wrong.

“The secrets of Doug Henning’s awesome powers revealed – inside!”

  3. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

Aha! Sister Immaculata was RIGHT about touching myself!

  4. Alessandra Kelley Says:

The book’s fun, though. I shall have to disentangle myself from the enjoyment of it to see if I can see the cover properly.

  5. Dead Stuff With Big Teeth Says:

The more I look at the cover, the less I like the Rs. The ones in the title are just silly, the ones in the author’s name are hard to read. I blame the satanic fires.

  6. Green Says:

I have this cover. If I hadn’t known who Randall Garret was I would have never bought it! Now I have the complete Lord Darcy in one volume, so I’ll send it off to find another home.

  7. Tom Noir Says:

This is why you use your elbow to flush the urinal.

It’s easy to see who’s the RINGleader of that bunch of digits.

  9. Adam Roberts Says:

You’ve really got to hand it to the artist.

    *slinks off, after Yoss*

Cries out for a “font problems” tag!

  11. The Tag Wizard Says:

Phil, your cries do not fall upon deaf…. eyes? Blind ears? Anyway… it’s done!

  12. fred Says:

So if you subtracted the best of fantasy from so-so science fiction you would get a cracking detective story?

  13. Phil Says:

Fred, that seems a logical deduction. Strictly speaking you should replace “so-so science fiction” with “science fiction that is so-so OR BETTER”.

And Tag Wizard, thanks for your sympathetic listening!

  14. Alessandra Kelley Says:

After thinking about it, I still think this is an okay cover. It conveys what the book is about, and if it is slightly goofy, well, given that it’s magical pastiches of Sherlock Holmes starring a descendant of Mr. Darcy, why not?

It’s not badly done, in my opinion.

I guessed it would be Pikachu.
