JuanPaul Comments: Would August’s prize happen to be blood? Or lips? Or bloody lips?

Published 1985

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! The Prodigy video “Girls” has escaped! Run for your lives!

Ever get the feeling there have been too many Rocky Horrors?

  3. Francis Boyle Says:

I didn’t know they made alphabet pretzels.

    Generic vampnado comment.

  5. Bibliomancer Says:

Because, as everyone knows, August is the bloodiest month of the autumn season.

  6. B. Chiclitz Says:

Whew, this cover is trying to do some heavy “symbolic” lifting. Is that some sort of eclipse occurring and an inverted ice mountain range, in places resembling vampire teeth, extinguishing the sun’s corona while Autumn awaits the arrival of August, presumably in November?

  7. A.R.Yngve Says:

At last, a cover that really bites and isn’t ashamed of it.

  8. Tat Wood Says:

‘August has returned to collect her prize’. So it’s fan-fic about the Derleth Awards and gender-reassignment.

I bet this baby is embossed. At least the title.

@JuanPaul, was it embossed so the bad font stood out even further? And was it shiny?

I am rapidly losing track of time, but am still sure that August isn’t autumn anywhere on this planet. Not even during an eclipse.

@Tat: Heh. That’s likely the best explanation.

Mr. xnoob was eating lunch when I showed him this. He stopped chewing for at least 20 seconds and stared, then said, “That’s a very happy rainbow.”

I’m sure I used to buy these for 2p each at the pick ‘n’ mix.

  11. JuanPaul Says:

@gssxn It was shiny and embossed. So it felt as bad as it looks.

High-fashion Langoliers? Where’s a little psychic girl when we need her?

Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice: some say it will end with a bunch of floating mouths. They’re sort of weird.

  13. fred Says:

I wondered if it was available, and it is.

  14. GSS ex-noob Says:

@fred: So the prize is, in fact, some wax lips.

Keep them out of the August sun (northern hemisphere) or they’ll melt before Halloween.

As long as we’re going with the confectionery scheme, does the rainbow represent an additional prize of Skittles? The icy arc some sort of cool mint gum?

Rainbow licorice laces having a party.
