Good Show Sir Comments: Who you calling a pussy?!

Published 1984

Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Feels so good!Good Show Sir! (Average: 6.09 out of 10)

The cat’s been playing with his outfit again,

  2. JuanPaul Says:

    Wow, Mowgli longbottomed.

  3. Ryan Says:

Ab illustration that makes me long for the sensibilities and clarity of a Baen cover.

  4. fred Says:

He’s either got wings head and foot or it’s silly fashion season.

Did someone say FANTASY? Multiple times? Uriah Heep did, 6 minutes worth.

  5. Bruce A Munro Says:

You meet some pretty sketchy people along the pathways to Fantasy.

  6. Francis Boyle Says:

Why is the 1936 members list of the East Bottomly Bridge Club on this cover?

  7. Tor Mented Says:

I want to know what “longbottomed” means, but I’m afraid to look it up.

  8. B. Chiclitz Says:

Is that cat on a leash? Kinda lowers the badass quotient of the whole “menacing warrior” trope. “Oh, we’re just out for walkies, and don’t worry, I’ll clean up after him. The shield’s for scooping.”

  9. Tat Wood Says:

Pacific Comics went bust before the next issue could emerge. Serves them right, trying to pass Christina Rosetti off as a major new comics writer.

  10. JuanPaul Says:

    @Tor Don’t worry, it’s benign.

  11. THX 1139 Says:

@Tat Wood: And also trying to pass their PC logo off as the DC logo.

  12. GSS ex-noob Says:

Is it just me, or does “Fantasy” in that font and pink suggest something more romantic than the glowering thud and blunder hero? It does say “mature readers”. Are these Pathways leading to barbarian romances?

@BC: I think it’s thongs (ahem) wrapped around his axe, not a leash. Kitty looks pretty annoyed though, check out those ears.

  13. Tat Wood Says:

@ex-noob: the logo suggests a definition of ‘fantasy’ that involves Herve Villachez and Ricardo Montalban.

  14. fred Says:

Pink might have become the Baen orange of pathways.

  15. Tracy Says:

Poor guy lost his pants and had to make do with last years’ discarded Christmas tree.

  16. B. Chiclitz Says:

@GSSxn—*sigh* Time to get the lens prescription checked, again.

  17. Bruce A Munro Says:

@GSS ex-noob: maybe those are his courtin’ wings.

  18. BryanMc Says:

Fantasy, I’m gonna live forever. I’m gonna learn how to fly

  19. GSS ex-noob Says:

Maybe kitty’s ears indicate his annoyance at not haz cheezburger.

@Tracy: if his garb is a dead tree (could also be from a tree that’s succumbed to pine beetles), that’d explain his facial expression.

@Tat: Date checks out, and not forgetting Roberto’s chest in Wrath of Khan shortly before this. Looking at this makes one think of shouting “De pain! De pain!”

  20. B. Chiclitz Says:

Maybe winged feet are easier to draw than regular, non-winged feet. These are pretty decent. Not sure about those cat paws however.

  21. A. R. Yngve Says:

Must be a Mindfulness coloring book for Fantasy fans.

  22. MelMc Says:

That face is definitely angry that he waited until the last minute for his Halloween costume and all that was left was “Sexy barbarian lady.”

  23. Bruce A Munro Says:

Aren’t we doing Flashback Fridays anymore?

  24. GSS ex-noob Says:

@Bruce: Maybe they’re part of the worldwide supply chain disruption. Ask Chinese GSS.

@BC: Kitty seems to have extra long toes and a lantern jaw. Is feline acromegaly a thing?

  25. B.Chiclitz Says:

@GSSxn—Or maybe too much juicing on the catnip steroids. Cat looks a little ‘roided out, come to think of it.

  26. THX 1139 Says:

@Bruce: We are, but it’s a flashback to last Thursday.

  27. GSS ex-noob Says:

@BC: Just what you need in a cat: something to make it more irritable and less tractable. Barbarian’s going to regret that.
