It’s rude to stare. It’s rude to do that, too.

  2. fred Says:

Is it more rude to stare while you are dripping….water?

  3. JJYoyo Says:

I just realized there is a “fish people” tag. That means there are more things like this? Egads!

All variant covers at ISFDB. ACE didn’t feel the need to replace the Frazetta cover.

Why ACE didn’t feel the need to replace the Frazetta cover.

I get that the promise of exciting adventure and non-stop action probably wasn’t the way to go in 1946 but did people really want bored and listless with a side order of goofy?

  6. A. R. Yngve Says:

Not sure about the proportions of the image to the book format… it needs to be –
    *SLAM*
    What the…?
FREEZE!! This is the Pun Police! You were going to say “needs to be SCALED up,” didn’t you? You’re under arrest for Dad Joke with the intent to create Cringe. Come along!
Fascists! You can’t do this to me! I regret nothing! Society is to blaame…

  7. Bruce A Munro Says:

    Fish and fishwife.

Well, it certainly is less cheeky than the Frazetta.

  8. Bibliomancer Says:

Gil is in love with his aquarium ornament.

  9. Raoul Says:

    Porgy and Bess

  10. JuanPaul Says:

Take a pass on this one, princess, there are plenty of fish in the sea

“Oh boy, time to try out my new ventriloquist dummy!”

  13. MelMc Says:

That is some serious side-eye she’s giving him. I suspect it has to do with the amount of filter he used on his dating site photo.

  14. JJYoyo Says:

You know, fwiw, for all the dated character of the, er, characters, I actually really like this cover.

  15. THX 1139 Says:

Margaret Dumont actually wishes Groucho were here for a change.

  16. Tat Wood Says:

And yet it still fails to distract anyone from how short his toga is.

  17. GSS ex-noob Says:

At least in 1946, the emphasis wasn’t on T&A, so it’s automatically better than the ones we’ve seen here before.

Although if fish-man bent over even a little, we’d see fish butt. I guess he doesn’t want to do that since then his giant googly eyes couldn’t look down her cleavage.
