Actually, that cover IS a classical work of art!I would touch it without protective gloves.I've seen worse. Far, far, worse.Interesting, but I would still read it in public.Middlng: Neither awful nor awfully goodWould not like to be seen reading that!Awful... just awful...That belongs in a gold-lame picture frame!Gah... my eyes are burning! Why pick on C3-PO when Shelob is RIGHT THERE?!

  2. Bibliomancer Says:

Her usual boob-distract-attack won’t work against this trio.

  3. Longtime_Lurker Says:

Isn’t the spider spinning a web from the wrong end? And what is that thing the robot is swinging? Looks more like a fishing rod than a weapon.

  4. Longtime_Lurker Says:

And who exactly is fighting against whom? I read this scene as the woman and the robot together against the spider with Floating Head looking on.

Let the master show you how it’s done.

Longtime_Lurker – i’m pretty sure that’s a flute the Robot is playing,it also explains the disco squares and DJ podium .I tried to read it – but got lost half way through .

  7. B. Chiclitz Says:

I like the strategically-placed gears on the robot’s knees, elbows and ankles, allowing his joints some movement. Unfortunately, his wrists seem frozen solid. This may be why he’s having a hard time wielding that fishing rod, and also why he seems to be punching himself in the face.

  8. Francis Boyle Says:

This one’s a job for the Toxic Cover Containment Squad. Not even WTF bad. Just bad in every possible way.

  9. B. Chiclitz Says:

@Francis B—Even the spider looks bored, or maybe it’s just that he’s resigned himself to his awful fate, forever gracing this cover.

  10. Yoss Says:

As oversize spiders go, that guy is rather non-threatening. Maybe he’s one of the good guys?

  11. JuanPaul Says:

The world of mazes seems like an exciting place. Not sure why they are so eager to escape.

  12. Tat Wood Says:

Come to Vardeman’s World of Mazes, new branch opening on Cenotaph Road, for all your labyrinthine needs.Hedge-trimmers, booby traps, giant rolling balls of rock and a special on pre-loved robots this week only..

  13. GSS ex-noob Says:

That droid just wanted to go fishing and here it is in the World of Mazes. There’s a barely-clad bimbo screaming and waving a sword around, and a giant levitating glowy spider. All on a disco floor presided over by DJ Dripping Head. Poor droid.

  14. Anna T. Says:

If the robot can get his wrists unfrozen in time, he’ll have a golden opportunity to kill the swordswoman since she’s unwisely worn armour that leaves her chest exposed, meaning getting her in the heart should be fairly straightforward.

  15. GSS ex-noob Says:

I’m not sure the robot’s footing is secure enough to swing for that big target, but if he can get a better stance and unlock his left hand from the fishing pole, he’ll be able to swing it pretty well with one hand.

  16. A.R.Yngve Says:

I hear the Spectrum ZX game (using the same cover!) sold better than the book version.

  17. GSS ex-noob Says:

@ARY: The Commodore 64 version definitely did. Same cover, but the graphics were better than the ZX game.
